Morson is proud to be recruiting on behalf of our client, a leading engineering and project delivery organisation operating across multiple sectors including Energy, Nuclear, Defence, and Transport. This is an excellent opportunity to join a high-performing team as a Principal Electrical Design Engineer, where you'll be the lead on one or more major projects within the energy sector.
Whether you're delivering concept studies, FEED, or full EPCm projects, you will work collaboratively within multi-discipline teams to provide best-in-class engineering solutions, on time and to budget. With a varied pipeline of work, there's opportunity to get involved in everything from brownfield oil and gas assets to pioneering hydrogen production and storage initiatives.
Key Responsibilities: As a client-facing Principal Engineer, your role may include:
Providing electrical discipline technical input across projects and/or proposals, including preparation, checking, and approval of engineering deliverables
Coordinating and allocating work across the electrical team to ensure timely delivery
Mentoring and developing junior engineers and graduates
Producing high-quality electrical engineering outputs aligned with project objectives
Ensuring compliance with all relevant national and international codes, legislation, and client standards
Preparing technical requisitions for electrical equipment such as HV/LV switchboards, transformers, motors, UPS systems, and lighting
Developing installation scopes of work and reviewing supplier quotations
Producing technical bid assessments and supporting commissioning activities
Technical Deliverables May Include: Protection grading studies and earthing calculations
Power system analysis (fault level calculations, load flow, etc.)
HV and LV cable/equipment sizing
Electrical datasheets and equipment specifications
Engagement with Distribution Network Operators (DNOs)
Site-based commissioning support
Qualifications & Experience: Degree in Electrical, Electronic, or Control Engineering (apprenticeship routes also considered)
Chartered or Incorporated Engineer (or working towards)
15+ years' engineering experience in Oil & Gas, Nuclear, or Water sectors
Strong working knowledge of design practices, installation standards, and UK legislation
Proven competence in electrical installation for hazardous/process plant environments
Experience supporting business improvement, team development, and promoting engineering excellence
