Consultant in Public Health (Health Improvement)

This is an excellent opportunity to join the Office forHealth Improvement and Disparities (OHID) Midlands to help drive forward healthimprovement and tackle inequalities in health. OHID Midlands is great place towork. We have a strong team full of expertise and experience, with a passion toimprove health and reduce disparities. We have goodrelationships with the local authority teams across the Midlands and contributeto NHS work with NHS Midlands regional teams.


Main duties of the job

We are looking for an experienced specialist in publichealth to develop, drive and scale-up delivery of national and regional publichealth programmes. You will provide public health leadership, expertise, andsystem support to help address both complex and emerging public healthchallenges. You will be required to contribute to a wide range of high-profilepublic health related work confidently working with a broad range of seniorinternal and external stakeholders to create change. Your role may include linemanagement responsibilities.

This role willprovide the right candidate with significant experience and opportunities tolearn, develop and make a real difference to peoples lives. You will need tobe self-motivated and able to manage yourself and others independently, workunder pressure and be comfortable with complexity and change.

The Health Improvement and wellbeing team collaborateswith regional partners in the Local authorities, Combined Authorities, NHS,West Midlands and East Midlands ADPH and other stakeholders, to support peopleliving in the Midlands to remain healthier for longer.

Fundamental to all this work is a commitment to tacklinghealth inequalities and supporting everyone so they can expect to live more oflife in good health.


About us

If medically qualified the individual will be appointed tothe point of the consultant salary scale (2003 contract) for Englandappropriate to their years of seniority or if from a background other thanmedicine to an equivalent Agenda for Change Band 8d

Candidates must be included on the GMC Specialist Register/GDC Specialist List or UK Public Health Register.

Person Specification


Qualifications

* Masters in Public Health or equivalent.
* Inclusion in the GMC Specialist Register/GDC Specialist List/UK Public Health Register (UKPHR) for Public Health Specialists.
* Applicants must meet minimum CPD requirements.
* MFPH by examination, exemption, or assessment.


Experience

* Essential skills and experience required for the role:
* Inclusion on the GMC/GDC Specialist Register or UK Public Health Register (UKPHR) for Public Health Specialists.
* Proven senior-level experience in public health practice, including leadership of programmes or systems.
* Strong strategic, analytical and communication skills, including the ability to use epidemiology and evidence to inform policy and practice.
* Demonstrable experience of partnership working in complex political and social environments.
* Commitment to public health principles, equality and reducing health inequalities.
* Ability to manage staff, budgets and projects effectively.

* Desirable criteria required for the role
* Record of scientific publications, conference presentations and/or research activity.
* Experience in training, mentoring and developing staff, including Public Health Registrars.
