Job Title: Police Staff Investigator (PSI) PIP Level 2 - Crime Permanent role Hours: 37 hours per week - part time/flexible working options will be considered. Grade: P4 Based at: Force wide (various locations where available) Closing Date: 22nd Feb 2026 Principal Responsibilities: This is an exciting opportunity to join our expanding Investigator workforce as a PIP2 Police Support Investigator. The police staff investigators PIP 2 role reports to the CID Detective Sergeant. It involves investigating serious and complex crimes in areas such as CID, PP RASSO and PP CAIU. Whilst we are keen to see individuals with a PIP2 qualification apply we are also encouraging staff with a PIP1 qualification to apply and complete the PIP2 training and qualification. Investigations vary from serious assault, coronial investigations, drugs offences, serious sexual assaults against adults and children. In Nottinghamshire we have one of the best and supportive PIP2 training processes but likewise we would welcome individuals with a PIP2 qualification (either a current PSI or retired / retiring Police Officer / other agency) to draw on your expertise. Some of the principal responsibilities of a police staff investigator’s role PIP 2 include: To take ownership of serious and complex criminal investigations. To develop and record proportionate investigation plans and strategies. To prioritise lines of enquiry, to maximising the gathering of material by securing and preserving evidence under minimum supervision Interview suspects in accordance with PACE (Police and Criminal Evidence Act) Code C and E. This will include the exercise of designated powers under the Police Reform Act (incl search and seizure). Responsibility for exhibits in terms of their management, storage and submission for forensic examination. Creation of disclosure schedules in line with CPIA disclosure obligations, liaison with CPS / barristers. Gather, develop and use intelligence effectively utilising force IT systems to enhance investigations and inform other departments/line management of identified risks and safeguarding concerns. To manage each case individually, pursuing all identified lines of enquiry fairly and without bias, using effective decision making to ensure accurate and sufficient material to prepare case files. Be deployable across Nottinghamshire and be prepared to travel nationally where investigations require it. The shift pattern includes weekend and afternoon shifts. The post is based at Mansfield Police Station – the applicant must be able to base themselves from this location. You will then be required to sit an interview. Applicants must be PIP1 accredited as a minimum requirement, however you are not required to be PIP2 accredited but is desirable. You must demonstrate experience in investigating criminal offences and must be prepared to pass the National Investigators Exam (NIE), attend a PIP2 course and complete a portfolio to achieve PIP2 accreditation.
