A global OEM of high-quality and innovative construction plant is seeking an experienced and motivated Field Service Engineer to support a growing customer base across the South East of England.
This is a hands-on, field-based role with involvement in major UK infrastructure projects, including a large-scale nuclear construction development. The position focuses on the diagnosis, maintenance, repair, and commissioning of specialist earthmoving equipment, including articulated dump trucks, wheeled excavators, and low ground pressure machinery.
The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining machine uptime, supporting critical projects, and representing the business on-site.
Key Responsibilities
* Carry out on-site fault diagnosis, servicing, and repairs on construction plant equipment
* Perform preventative maintenance inspections (PMIs) to minimise breakdowns and downtime
* Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and electronic systems
* Support machine commissioning, pre-delivery inspections (PDI), and handovers
* Respond effectively to breakdowns, aiming for first-time fix where possible
Customer Interaction
* Act as a professional, customer-facing representative on site
* Provide technical advice and support to customers and operators
* Liaise with parts and technical teams to ensure efficient repair planning
Health, Safety & Compliance
* Work in full compliance with HSE policies, site rules, and legal requirements
* Complete risk assessments and follow safe systems of work
* Maintain accurate service records and job reports
Skills & Experience Required
* Proven experience as a Field Service Engineer or Plant Engineer
* Strong knowledge of hydraulics, diesel engines, transmissions, and electrical diagnostics
* Experience working on construction plant, earthmoving equipment, or similar machinery
* Ability to work independently in a field-based role
* Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills
* Experience working on major infrastructure or regulated construction sites
* Familiarity with telematics, CANbus diagnostics, or electronic control systems
* Relevant safety certifications (e.g. CSCS, CCNSG or similar) advantageous
