Senior Assistant Welfare Officer
Grade and Salary: Grade 6; £29,116 – £32,210 per annum (pro rata) (£33,699 – £37,280 FTE). Working pattern 37 hours per week with 39 weeks per year (TTO plus INSET days). Contract: Permanent.
Role Overview
We seek an experienced attendance professional with strong people skills and a passion for improving outcomes for young people. The Senior Attendance Welfare Officer will coordinate office-based attendance initiatives, support families directly, and collaborate closely with external agencies to remove barriers to attendance. Working in partnership with the Safeguarding Team, you will lead engagement strategies, deliver preventative support, and provide leadership within the Attendance and Welfare Team, deputising for the Attendance and Inclusion Manager when required.
Responsibilities
* Coordinate targeted attendance interventions and ensure timely, preventative support for families.
* Work directly with families to promote sustainable engagement and improve attendance outcomes.
* Collaborate with external agencies to address barriers to attendance.
* Support the Safeguarding Team in implementing student and family engagement strategies.
* Provide leadership within the Attendance and Welfare Team, deputising for the Attendance and Inclusion Manager as needed.
* Collect, analyse, and report on attendance data to inform decision‑making.
Qualifications
* Significant experience in attendance or welfare support within a school setting.
* Strong communication and empathy skills with the ability to build trust with families.
* Resilience to tackle barriers to attendance head on.
* Knowledge of safeguarding, legislative and regulatory frameworks related to children.
* Experience of maintaining accurate and confidential records.
