Senior / Principal Transport Planner – Major Projects
WSP invites applications for the Senior / Principal Transport Planner – Major Projects role. The position offers location flexibility and can be based at our offices in Birmingham, Cardiff, Southampton, or London. WSP’s hybrid working policy allows you to combine in‑office and remote work.
Responsibilities
* Undertake Transport Statements, Transport Assessments, Environmental Statement Transport Chapters, Construction Traffic Management Plans and Travel Plans, and play a hands‑on role in client and local authority scoping discussions.
* Lead technical discussions around the accessibility of project/construction sites for a wide range of modes, articulating impacts and mitigations required to support planning approvals.
* Work in a multi‑disciplinary environment and proactively collaborate with adjacent disciplines such as noise and air quality, ecology, and highway teams.
* Take ownership of delegated tasks such as preparing fee estimates and proposals for review by Project Managers and Directors.
* Maintain flexibility and upskill knowledge to work across other transport workstreams such as communications and engagement, supporting a sustainable and balanced workflow.
* Work collaboratively in a client/consultant environment and represent WSP’s values when delivering work for our clients.
* Stay current with relevant standards and policies, and raise WSP’s profile by networking and attending conferences.
* Ensure projects are delivered to budget, programme, and required technical standards.
Qualifications
* Experience with scoping reports, transport assessments, and environmental statement transport chapters.
* Track record of delivering transport planning projects and a knowledge of relevant guidelines and standards.
* Familiarity with Local Authority transport plans and strategies; experience in transport feasibility studies, option assessment reports, and providing inputs into transport‑related business cases.
* Strong numerical, spatial and analytical skills and excellent working knowledge of MS Office tools.
* Ability to produce project reports, including technical documents to a high technical standard.
* Ability to communicate technical arguments to technical and non‑technical audiences, and present outputs from studies to a range of audiences.
* Knowledge of current transport policy at sub‑regional, regional and national level.
