ROLE OVERVIEW //
Would you like to join one of the world’s most prestigious law firms?
We are offering a fantastic opportunity for a professional, technically strong and engaging individual to join us as a Data Privacy Associate in our London-based Tech, Digital, Data and IP group.
In addition to its highly regarded Data and Digital practice, the firm has extensive Tech, IP, Corporate, Financial Institutions, Commercial and Financing practices. It also has strong practices in Financial Regulation, Tax, Competition, Real Estate, Dispute and Investigations and Pensions, Employment and Incentives.
The firm is organised into groups that undertake a general spread of work, encouraging lawyers to work on an extensive range of matters. Much of the work spans the globe, with transactions involving our overseas offices as well as leading independent law firms in many other jurisdictions.
Associates tend to work for partners in their own group, but you may also work for partners in other groups to provide a breadth of experience not only in types of work, but also in the different working practices and approach of different partners.
The matters we work on are generally challenging and sophisticated. We do, however, aim to give associates as much responsibility and client contact as they are ready for.
Group structure of our data privacy practice
Our Data Privacy practice sits within our wider Tech, Digital, Data and IP practice. The leadership of the group currently consists of 5 partners, a senior counsel and a head of knowledge. The data privacy practice is led by 1 of the group partners, Rebecca Cousin. The wider group currently has 26 associates and 5 trainees, with 3 of the associates dedicated to the Data Privacy practice and further associates within the group undertaking data privacy work as part of a broader mixture of work.
As well as being a highly-regarded and important specialist practice, the data privacy practice is a critical component of the firmwide Technology practice, which brings together talent and leadership from practice areas across the whole firm to focus on winning work and supporting clients in the burgeoning technology and digital sectors.
Whilst much of your work will be with Rebecca Cousin, you will also work directly with other partners in the group as well as with partners in our Disputes and Investigations team when the matter is of a contentious nature, giving you the opportunity to see a wide range of working styles and strategic approaches.
The Data Privacy practice is supported by two dedicated knowledge lawyers who work within a wider team of 5 knowledge lawyers within the Tech, Digital, Data and IP practice.
As data is increasingly seen as a valuable yet vulnerable asset, our Data Privacy practice delivers strategic, pragmatic and commercial advice that supports the management of data risk against a fast-moving regulatory backdrop.
We support our clients on all aspects of data privacy risks across the world, including data governance, monetisation strategies, implications of AI and the design of new digital products and services. This includes more contentious work, including complex DSARs, data breaches, regulatory enforcement and privacy based claims, as well as where data privacy is used as a tool in wider commercial, employment or regulatory disputes and investigations.
We are at the forefront of legal developments in the UK, Europe and beyond through our network of industry experts, regulator contacts and relationship firms around the world.
