TeacherActive is delighted to be working with a friendly and inclusive primary school in Bordesley Green, Birmingham, seeking a compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a KS1 pupil with autism. You’ll play a key role in helping this wonderful child flourish both academically and socially within a nurturing mainstream classroom. This full-time role is to cover maternity leave, running from November 2025 to July 2026, with the possibility of extension. Your Responsibilities Provide personalised 1:1 support to help the child engage and thrive in classroom activities. Work collaboratively with the class teacher and SENCO to deliver Individual Education Plans (IEPs). Use creative strategies to promote communication, social interaction, and emotional regulation. Support transitions and maintain consistency throughout the school day. Build a trusting relationship with the child and their family. Monitor and report on progress, celebrating successes and identifying next steps. About You We’d love to hear from you if you: ✅ Have experience supporting children with autism or other special educational needs (ideally in a Primary setting). ✅ Are calm, nurturing, and flexible in your approach. ✅ Hold a relevant qualification such as a Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant or equivalent. ✅ Communicate effectively and work well as part of a team. ✅ Are passionate about inclusive education and safeguarding every child’s wellbeing.
