Job overview

The Endoscopy services at Bucks Healthcare Trust are expanding, providing a service over a 7-day period to meet capacity demands and to improve patient experience. As such we are increasing our workforce to allow for this service development.

If you are a registered nurse who already has Endoscopy experience or you are someone who is willing to learn new skills and you are enthusiastic about supporting service and staff development for the benefit of patients, we would like to hear from you.

We are a JAG accredited Unit and encourage our staff to develop new skills by offering opportunities to attend training courses as well as supporting staff within the Unit providing both a clinical and competency based training programme.

Main duties of the job

1. The post holder will be responsible for supporting the day to day running of the Endoscopy Unit.
2. The post holder will assist the Endoscopist with procedures/investigations and manipulation of intricate equipment after appropriate training.
3. The post holder will be responsible for ensuring nursing care is delivered safely and effectively.
4. Liaise, report and document any relevant nursing/patient needs with other health care professionals with ongoing responsibility for patient care, communicating changes as they occur.
5. Responsible for the timely entry of accurate, complete and valid data into the specialist Endoscopy reporting system.
6. Promote health education within the Endoscopy Unit and be able to advise the patients and their relatives and others in health promotion issues.

Education, Qualifications & Training

Essential criteria

7. Registered Nurse/Awaiting NMC PIN

Desirable criteria

8. Evidence of further continued professional development
9. Post qualification experience in relevant speciality
10. Hold / be working towards an NMC approved mentoring qualification

Experience

Essential criteria

11. Ability to understand the role of a registered nurse
12. Ability to work as part of a team and on own initiative
13. Demonstrates understanding of the importance of audit/quality

Desirable criteria

14. Post registration experience working in an acute hospital setting

Skills, Abilities & Knowledge

Essential criteria

15. Good verbal and written communication skills and ability to negotiate
16. Ability to manage and prioritise own caseload with supervision
17. Ability to solve problems and use initiative
18. Ability to develop clinical skills
19. Willingness to undergo training (e.g. medications)
20. Basic IT skills
21. Knowledge of the NMC code of conduct
22. Ability to maintain a safe clinical environment conducive to patient care
23. Adaptable to change
24. Ability to work rotating shifts
25. Diplomatic approach with professionalism
26. Flexible and approachable

Desirable criteria

27. Willingness to develop teaching skills
28. Awareness of the NHSE guidance of clinical governance in order to continuously improve quality of care e.g. quality, safety and ward audit standards
29. Knowledge of care planning, preceptorship, reflection and clinical supervision

30. Able to travel to other sites and off site as necessary
31. Maybe required to work in other departments if requested to do so
