Caretaker - Leading Independent School, Berkhamsted
Salary: Up to £25,000 per annum (dependent on experience)
We are seeking a dedicated Caretaker local to Berkhamsted to join a leading independent school in Berkhamsted. This is an exciting opportunity for a reliable and proactive individual to play a key role in ensuring our school site remains safe, secure, and well maintained.
As a Caretaker, you will be responsible for site security, building maintenance, and ensuring a welcoming environment for pupils, staff, and visitors. You will have a hands-on approach, a broad range of DIY skills, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a supportive team.
Key Responsibilities
Day-to-day maintenance and upkeep of school buildings and grounds.
Ensuring security of the premises, including key holding and alarm management.
Carrying out health and safety checks in line with statutory requirements.
Undertaking cleaning, repair, and general caretaking duties.
Supporting staff and contractors with access and facilities use.
Person Specification
Essential:
Experience in building maintenance and use of cleaning methods/materials.
Knowledge of basic health and safety requirements (COSHH awareness desirable).
Ability to communicate effectively and build positive relationships with colleagues, pupils, and parents.
Resilience, reliability, and a proactive attitude.
Physical capability to carry out lifting, carrying, and general site duties.
Desirable:
Previous experience as a Caretaker in a school environment.
Recognised qualifications in building construction, engineering services, or site management.
Knowledge of SEN and experience working in an educational setting.
