Less Common Metals has an exciting opportunity for an Operations Manager to join the team on a full-time, permanent basis. In return, you will receive a competitive salary of £55,000 - £65,000 per annum.
Less Common Metals is a long-established manufacturer leading in decarbonising our planet. Their products are sold worldwide to enable green energy production and mobility. Substantial growth is anticipated in the coming years, and the financial controller will be part of the leadership team during this exciting period.
The Operations Manager role:
As our Operations Manager, you will achieve operational targets through effective resource organisation across production and maintenance teams, coordinating inter-department activities to meet customer orders and projects, while ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures. You must address unpredictable short-term customer demands with a positive, solution-based attitude.
Key responsibilities:
1. Leading and developing a multifunctional team
2. Driving a safety-first culture and ensuring compliance with health and safety standards
3. Liaising with sales and purchasing departments to optimise production and processes
4. Developing and delivering key performance indicators (KPIs) for operational success
5. Leading change initiatives, driving cost-saving improvements, and enhancing processes
6. Collaborating with stakeholders across the business to achieve strategic goals
Skills and experience required:
* Minimum of 5 years in production management within relevant industry sectors
* Proven track record of developing teams and people
* Good knowledge of Lean Manufacturing techniques
* Experience in high mix/low volume manufacturing environments and resource optimisation
* Ability to make clear decisions and work effectively under pressure
* Strong computer skills, including MS Office (especially Excel), and understanding of MRP/ERP systems
* Organised with the ability to prioritise tasks under tight deadlines
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills—empowering team members and driving change
* Maintain a safe and clean working environment, identifying hazards through risk assessments and implementing actions to minimise risks
* Strong critical thinking skills
* Leadership skills to promote a positive, proactive attitude and develop effective teams at all levels
* Ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with your team and colleagues
* Full driving licence
