Job summary
An opportunity has arisen for an experienced pharmacist to assist the Principal Pharmacist in leading and delivering an excellent clinical pharmacy service to the pre-assessment unit. This is a full-time role ( hours per week + on-call) to cover maternity leave for 12 months. You will have the characteristics of a self-motivated, dynamic, enthusiastic and forward thinking individual with excellent communication skills and a background in acute hospital pharmacy service provision such that you can provide leadership and clinical expertise to shape the pre-assessment services for the Trust.
Key responsibilities include:
1. Support the Principal Pharmacist to manage, develop and evaluate pharmacy services to the pre-assessment clinic (PAC)
2. Provide a high quality, safe and effective specialist clinical pharmacy service to the PAC
3. Manage own case load and provide expert opinion on medicines when appropriate
4. Supervise and teach pharmacists, preregistration students, undergraduate pharmacy students and pharmacy technicians in the provision of pharmacy services to the PAC
5. Assess and prioritise pharmaceutical requirements for patients reviewed at the PAC for surgical procedures
6. As an independent prescriber, prescribe medicines as appropriate within own competency
There will be opportunities to lead, undertake and publish research as part of an innovative pharmacy team.
Main duties of the job
Working closely with the pharmacy and PAC multidisciplinary teams, you will:
7. Be a member of the senior pharmacy leadership team
8. Develop, monitor and review medicines related policies and guidelines
9. Assist in provision of clinical and professional leadership in delivering a highly specialised clinical pharmacy service to patients within PAC
10. Manage a small team of pharmacists to deliver the medicines optimisation strategy for RNOH
11. Contribute to the education and training programme for all pharmacy and clinical staff
12. Meet the department and Trust's audit agenda and quality improvement objectives
13. Critical evaluation of medicines expenditure and financial reporting
As a registered Pharmacist you will also have a postgraduate clinical diploma or MSc in Clinical Pharmacy along with extensive experience working within a range of clinical areas. Experience of managing staff and leading projects is desirable.

Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential
25. Masters Degree in Pharmacy or equivalen
26. Member of the GPhC
27. Higher Degree/Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy
28. Independent Prescriber qualification
Desirable
29. Member of the RPS
30. Member of UKCPA
31. Appropriate short management courses
32. Specialist courses/ experience in the specialist areas of anticoagulation, haemostasis, anaemia
Experience
Essential
33. Minimum 3 years' experience as a clinical pharmacist practitioner, preferably within a surgical environmen
34. Demonstrate the ability to appropriately recommend, substantiate and communicate therapeutic options and dosage regimens for patients receiving medicines in these specialist areas
35. Practical clinical experience
36. Previous experience in delivering training and education
37. Demonstrable use of clinical audit to improve practice
