The Role
The Group Legal Counsel will support the Group General Counsel across a diverse range of legal work. This role requires a person who is proactive and thrives on collaboration and creative problem-solving. Together we will navigate complex legal landscapes while enabling our businesses to deliver exceptional value to its customers.
As the legal function expands, this role offers excellent opportunities for a mid-level lawyer to gain broad exposure, further develop their in-house experience and build a long-term career within a collaborative and supportive team. As a team, it is key we provide clear, business friendly legal advice across all departments and that we champion ethical and responsible practices.
As a Group function, this role will likely span across all areas of general in-house advice. There will be the training, supervision and development across financial services regulatory work, commercial contracting, employment law, governance, company secretarial tasks and legal operations, with increased responsibility as experience grows.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Services and Regulatory
* Review and negotiate a wide range of financial services agreements (e.g., fund management, distribution, adviser, and platform-related agreements).
* Advise on regulatory guidance and FCA obligations relevant to the Group.
* Support regulatory projects (e.g., Consumer Duty, SMCR, product governance).
* Collaborate with Compliance on routine regulatory queries and documentation.
* Draft and review terms and conditions for products, websites, and customer matters (including orphan/deceased assets and complaints).
Commercial Contracting
* Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of commercial agreements (SaaS, technology, suppliers, and services) with appropriate supervision.
* Provide timely, pragmatic, and commercial legal advice to business teams.
* Maintain and improve template contracts, playbooks, and internal precedents.
Governance And Company Secretarial Support
* Support the Company Secretariat with board packs, filings, and corporate records.
* Assist with Companies House submissions and governance administration.
* Promote and help embed good governance practices across the group.
Legal Risk Management and Operations
* Track and manage legal risks and issues across the group.
* Assist with the implementation of new legal technology.
* Contribute to improvements in contract lifecycle management and SharePoint structures.
* Deliver internal training and legal awareness initiatives.
About You
Specialist Skills, Qualifications and Experience:
Essential
* Qualified solicitor in England & Wales with a minimum of 4 years’ PQE.
* Experience with commercial contracts.
* In-house experience within a regulated financial services environment, preferably platforms or asset management.
* Strong drafting skills and attention to detail.
* Clear communicator, able to work effectively with business stakeholders.
* Well organized, proactive and comfortable managing multiple tasks with support.
* Eagerness to learn, develop and take on increasing responsibility.
Desirable
* Exposure to asset/wealth management, platforms or discretionary fund management.
* Basic understanding of data protection and privacy frameworks.
* Interest in legal operations or process improvement.
* Interest in governance and company secretarial duties.
