Private Sector Housing Officer – North West

Rate:£45 per hour (Umbrella)
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and proactive Private Sector Housing Officer to join our team in the North West. You will play a key role in improving housing standards across the private rented sector, ensuring compliance with legislation, and supporting residents to live in safe, secure, and well‑maintained homes.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong housing regulation knowledge, great communication skills, and a passion for making a meaningful impact within local communities.
Key Responsibilities
* Carry out inspections of private rented homes in line with the Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS).
* Identify and act on hazards, disrepair, and statutory breaches.
* Prepare and serve enforcement notices where required.
* Provide advice and guidance to landlords, tenants, and managing agents.
* Investigate complaints relating to poor housing conditions, overcrowding, and illegal eviction.
* Support initiatives around property licensing, empty homes, and improving overall standards.
* Maintain accurate case records and produce clear written reports.
* Work closely with internal teams, external agencies, and partners to achieve positive outcomes.
About You
We’re looking for someone who has:
* Experience in private sector housing, environmental health, or a related field.
* Strong working knowledge of housing legislation and enforcement powers.
* HHSRS training (desirable but not essential if willing to undertake).
* Excellent communication, negotiation, and problem‑solving skills.
* The ability to manage a varied caseload and meet deadlines.
* A commitment to delivering high‑quality services to residents and landlords alike.
* A full UK driving licence (preferred).
