Birchills Health Centre is a forward-thinking and well-respected teaching and training practice located in Walsall, West Midlands. We serve a diverse population of over 6,000 patients and have recently joined a PCN alongside six other practices, enabling us to develop and shape our services further.

Due to an expanding patient list, we are seeking a Receptionist, with or without previous GP surgery experience, to join our team.
Main Duties of the Job
The primary role of the Receptionist is to ensure patients can access health services, including making appointments with doctors as appropriate, and to ensure all patient records are up-to-date and accessible for all users when required.
The successful candidate will contribute to maintaining practice administrative systems such as data input, new patient registrations, correspondence, results, and repeat prescribing systems. They will work effectively as part of a team, where help and support are always available.

We are a large, friendly, and diverse team comprising 3 partners, 2 Practice Nurses, 1 HCA, and an experienced clerical/admin/reception team of 7. We are passionate about staff health and wellbeing and working collaboratively as a team.
We have a long-standing history of training and teaching medical students, GP registrars, and student nurses, with opportunities for involvement in supervision and education.
Our practice is rated 'Good' by CQC, with high QoF attainment annually. We have an Advanced Nurse Prescriber, use EMIS Web, and are involved in Covid vaccination efforts. Full medical indemnity is provided.
Job Responsibilities
The Receptionist will adhere to practice protocols and procedures, contribute to their updates, and always protect patient confidentiality.
Telephones
* Answer incoming calls, including external and internal lines.
* Switch lines from out-of-hours messages in the morning and at day's end.
* Handle emergency calls following protocols.
* Book appointments and provide telephone advice as per access protocols.
* Record and pass on patient information accurately for advice or triage.
* Forward calls and pass messages.
* Assist with prescription queries.
Reception Desk
* Greet patients and assist them appropriately, handling emergencies as per protocols.
* Book appointments and process prescription requests.
* Help patients check in, register, update details, and provide practice information.
* Manage security procedures, including unlocking/locking the surgery.
Records
* Maintain and update patient records, transmit data to Practitioner Services, and handle incoming correspondence and results.
* Manage new patient records, scan correspondence, and file records accurately.
Messages
Record and pass on patient messages according to protocols.
Prescription Requests
* Handle repeat prescription requests via phone and in person.
* Process amendments and pass prescriptions for signature and collection.
Contacting Patients
Contact patients via phone or letter as per doctor’s instructions and agreed timelines.

Depending on experience, the salary will be above the National Living Wage.
