The Lewisham Dialectical Behaviour Therapy Team is looking to recruit a skilled therapist passionate about DBT, working with clients struggling to regulate emotions, behaviors, and relationships.
Main duties of the job
Job Purpose:
To provide a specialist Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) service to clients with Borderline/Emotionally-Unstable Personality Disorder (BPD/EUPD) and related difficulties. Responsibilities include delivering comprehensive DBT (individual sessions, skills training groups, telephone coaching), attending weekly team meetings, conducting assessments, monitoring outcomes, offering consultation, and contributing to service evaluation and research.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- Deliver comprehensive DBT including individual sessions, skills training, and out-of-hours coaching, including DBT-PE for trauma.
- Provide assessments and formulate treatment plans for clients with emotional and behavioral dysregulation, especially those with BPD/EUPD engaging in suicidal or parasuicidal behaviors and co-morbid issues.
- Design and deliver adjunctive groups, monitor outcomes, and adapt interventions based on principles from DBT/CBT.
- Work autonomously within HCPC policies, with supervision and team meetings.
- Liaise with referrers and other professionals to develop and review care plans.
- Regularly assess and monitor risk, creating risk management plans.
- Deliver DBT-informed interventions to carers and families, including 'Family Connections' groups.
- Support community care coordinators and offer consultation to team members.
- Communicate complex information sensitively, considering sensory and cultural barriers.
Person specification
Qualification
* Entry-level qualification in psychological therapy/mental health/social welfare, with demonstrable DBT practice. Training can include Doctorate, MSc, PG Diploma, supervised practice, and additional training accepted for registration.
* Registered with HCPC, SfDBT, BABCP, BACP, ACAT, or NMC.
* Post Graduate Diploma in DBT or intensive DBT training.
* Accredited with the Society for DBT or Linehan Board of Accreditation.
Experience
* Delivering CBT or comprehensive DBT.
* Working with clients diagnosed with BPD/EUPD.
* Psychological assessment and treatment of complex needs.
* Receiving regular clinical supervision.
* Addressing diversity issues.
* Research project development and execution.
* Valuing lived experience of mental health challenges.
Knowledge and Skills
* Theoretical knowledge of DBT, CBT, and psychopathology.
* Specialist psychological skills for working with BPD/EUPD clients.
