Summary:
The Athletic Director fulfills the mission of the Catholic school by assisting the administration in the development of an athletic program to promote student health, athletic skill, and safety. The Athletic Director has decision making responsibilities within essential job functions, in keeping with school policies.
The PE Teacher fulfills the mission of the Catholic school by guiding, inspiring, and educating students in a loving, Christ-centered environment. The Teacher is to be immediately responsible to the principal for the carrying out of policies of the school and the Archdiocese of San Antonio as they relate to the function of the school, the classroom, and the immediate contact with students and parents.
Position Responsibilities:
Supports and upholds the philosophy of Catholic education and the mission of the schoolActs as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic ChurchSupports and adheres to the Religious Standards for Catholic School Employees and policies and procedures of the school and Archdiocese of San AntonioMaintains confidentiality regarding school mattersPlans, organizes, and implements a comprehensive athletic program for studentsProvides for the safety and well-being of student athletes by implementing safety guidelines and training of coaches and studentsMaintains, updates, and distributes athlete and coach handbooks annuallyImplements annual parent information and coach training sessionsEnsures that all athletes have completed annual physicals, release/hold harmless forms, and registration prior to participationEnsures the school’s compliance with league regulations and attends required meetingsMaintains athletic inventory and coordinates the ordering process for new equipment and uniformsMaintains the school’s athletic calendar in coordination with the master school calendarAttends and supervises all on-campus athletic competitions, and ensures supervision of all off-campus eventsIn conjunction with the principal, supervises, hires, and evaluates all coaches formally and informallyMaintains current and accurate records according to school and Archdiocesan policyCommunicates efficiently regarding registration, team assignments, schedules, and participation requirementsCommunicates with administration/faculty regarding need for early dismissals, field, and gym useMeets staff development guidelines as set forth by the Archdiocese/local administrationDemonstrates professionalism in conduct, demeanor, and work habitsMaintains a work schedule that maximizes availability to the school, students and staffCollaborates with peers to enhance the work environment and support planningConferences with parents upon request and responds to messages in a timely mannerKeeps abreast of current athletic and safety information through membership in relevant associationsHire coaches. Require preseason and postseason meetings with coaches. Providing guidance and direction for a school’s sports programPrepares budgets and allocates spending on items such as coaches' salaries, team travel, equipment purchases, and facility upkeepCollaborates with conferences and leagues about scheduling issuesSpeaks with league officials about subjects such as postseason playDetermines the time allocated for a field, court, or weight roomWorks with coaches and perhaps a travel coordinator to plan tripsCoordinates officials and umpires at games and budgets for their payFiles reports on the status of each team and its successes and shortcomingsMediates any disputes between athletes and coaches or between coachesRequired to manage high to moderate levels of stressRequired to work in standard gym, field, and school conditions Adheres to safety training and protocols on a daily basis and takes precautionary measures to ensure the safety and well-being of self, others.

Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of school’s curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation as required.Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in student learning styles.Present subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, Department of Catholic Schools, and administrative regulations.Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned.Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities.Work with other members of staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to DCS requirementsPlan and supervise assignments of teacher aide(s) and volunteer(s).Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process.Student Growth and Development

Minimum Qualifications:
Education

License and Credentials
12 credit hours in education courses or a valid, appropriate state certificate, as outlined in the Texas Catholic Conference Education Department standards.Technology proficiency in the areas of word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and internet use for educational purposes and multimedia presentations.Demonstrated competency in the subject assigned area(s).Must pass archdiocesan Safe Environment Requirements and background screening.Extensive knowledge of AIAL/TAPS rules and regulations

Five years coaching experience Must possess administrative, organizational and financial skills in addition to a thorough knowledge of athletic policy and procedure.Must be detail oriented, organized, self-motivated, work well independently and on a team;Current CPR certification and First Aid trainingTeaching or coaching-related certification preferredMust have good written and verbal skills;Must have good critical thinking and problem solving skills.Travel Requirements:
