:A Brief Overview

Provides accurate and timely information to visitors and callers. Responsibilities include pre-certifying with insurance companies, filing, scheduling, maintaining records in the Electronic Medical Record system, processing patient specimens, and direct patient care. This role assists providers with office procedures. Administrative tasks include scheduling appointments, billing, coding, and maintaining medical records. Clinical duties include taking and recording vital signs, documenting medical histories, preparing patients for exams, drawing blood, and administering medications under physician or advanced practice provider direction. Adaptability to varied tasks is essential.

What you will do
1. Authorize drug refills and provide prescription information to pharmacies.
2. Change dressings on wounds.
3. Clean and sterilize instruments and dispose of contaminated supplies.
4. Collect blood, tissue or other laboratory specimens, log the specimens, and prepare them for testing.
5. Contact medical facilities or departments to schedule patients for tests or admission.
6. Explain treatment procedures, medications, diets and physicians' instructions to patients.
7. Help physicians or physician assistant examine and treat patients, handing them instruments and materials or performing such tasks as giving injections or removing sutures.
8. Interview patients to obtain medical information and measure their vital signs, weight, and height.
9. Inventory and order medical, lab, or office supplies and equipment.
10. Collect co-pays, coinsurance, and past due balances and record transactions.
11. Operate equipment to administer routine diagnostic tests.
12. Perform general office duties such as answering telephones or completing insurance forms.
13. Perform routine laboratory tests and sample analyses.
14. Prepare and administer medications as directed by a physician or physician assistant.
15. Prepare treatment rooms for patient examinations, keeping the rooms neat and clean.
16. Record patients' medical history, vital statistics, and information such as test results in medical records.
17. Schedule appointments for patients.
18. Set up medical laboratory equipment.
19. Show patients to examination rooms and prepare them for the physician.

Qualifications:

Qualifications
20. H.S. Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) Required
21. Graduation from an accredited program for Medical Assistants Required
22. 1-3 years experience in a medical office Preferred
23. Knowledge of the information and techniques needed to diagnose and treat human injuries, diseases, and deformities. This includes symptoms, treatment alternatives, drug properties and interactions, and preventive health-care measures.
24. Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, stenography and transcription, designing forms, and other office procedures and terminology.
25. Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
26. The ability to communicate information and ideas in speaking so others will understand.
27. The ability to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).
28. Certified Medical Assistant Required
29. Basic Cardiac Life Support & First Aid - American Heart Association within 60 Days Required
30. Child Abuse Iowa Mandatory Reporter - Iowa Department of Human Services within 180 Days Required
31. Dependent Adult Abuse Mandatory Reporter - Iowa Department of Human Services within 180 Days Required
