Job Description
Elevation Recruitment are working with a fast-paced engineering business is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to support the design and development of machinery and specialist systems.
This is a hands on role, ideal for someone with a strong practical engineering background who is comfortable working across the full product lifecycle, from concept through to build, test, and implementation.
Design Engineer Key Responsibilities
* Design mechanical components and assemblies using 3D CAD
* Develop machinery and control systems, experience with pumps, valves, pipework, pneumatics, hydraulics etc. would be beneficial
* Produce detailed manufacturing drawings with appropriate tolerances and GD&T
* Work closely with workshop/production teams to ensure designs are practical and manufacturable
* Support prototype builds, testing, and fault finding
* Modify and improve existing designs based on performance feedback
* Assist with supplier liaison and component selection
* Ensure designs meet relevant industry standards and safety requirements
Design Engineer Profile:
* Experience in a Mechanical Design Engineer position, ideally within machinery or similar
* Strong practical engineering background, ideally time-served machining/toolmaking beneficial
* Comfortable working in a hands-on, fast-paced environment
* Experience taking projects from concept through to completion
Technical Requirements
* Proficient in 3D CAD (e.g. SolidWorks, Inventor or similar)
* Strong understanding of engineering drawings and GD&T
* Good knowledge of:
o Machining and fabrication processes
o Materials, fits, and tolerances
o Assembly methods and real-world performance
Desirable experience:
* Pumps, valves, or pressure systems
* Pneumatics and/or hydraulics
* Special purpose machinery or general equipment design
Electrical Awareness (Desirable)
* Basic understanding of motors, sensors, and wiring
* Awareness of control systems/automation (PLCs advantageous)
* Experience working with electromechanical systems
