Overview
Due to growth within our General Merchandise sector, an opportunity has arisen for a Part-time Accounting Assistant to join the existing Finance Team based at our Rochdale depot, Lancashire.
The Accounting Assistant role offers an exciting opportunity for the right candidate to join the Wincanton team, reporting to the Finance Officer and developing their career within our Finance community.
The role is 22.5 hours per week, which can be split over 3, 4, or 5 days. The part-time salary is £15,600.
How will you contribute?
1. Contribute to the production of weekly accounts with the help of the Finance Officer.
2. Review costs and explain variances with meaningful commentary to operational stakeholders and the Finance Manager.
3. Manage time and attendance data, payroll, and handle all queries regarding variances.
4. Support the Finance Officer in month-end procedures, including balancing reported costs and flagging risks and opportunities.
5. Assist operators in understanding operation cost drivers.
6. Work with the operations team to capture statistics and non-finance information for accounts input.
7. Ensure costs are tracked and up-to-date for prepaying or accruing as appropriate.
8. Review weekly Operational Trackers and liaise with the Operations team to resolve queries.
9. Assist with period Balance Sheet reconciliations.
10. Create and post weekly and monthly journals.
11. Control inter-contract and inter-company recharges.
12. Handle purchasing for the contract, including raising purchase orders and liaising with suppliers.
13. Undertake any other duties reasonably required for the role.
What will you bring?
1. Studying or wanting to study towards a professional accountancy qualification (AAT, CIMA, or ACCA).
2. A desire to develop a career in finance within the logistics industry.
3. Excellent PC skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
4. Self-motivated, enthusiastic, accurate, and able to work under pressure, with flexibility during key reporting periods.
5. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
