We’re looking for enthusiastic and creative Cardiff University students to help lead day trips and produce high-quality content for the Students’ Union’s Give it a Go programme. This is a varied and rewarding role combining student-facing responsibilities with hands-on content creation across our digital channels. The trip does not have to be to a Give it a Go destination. We are asking for a short video to assess your public speaking and communication skills. Please state your availability - a list of any Saturdays or Sundays between 27 th September and 16 th December that you would not be available to work. Main responsibilities: Manage the smooth and successful running of Give it a Go day trips. Welcome students onto the coach, make clear announcements to a large group, and provide essential trip information. Build friendly & warm connections with attendees, while maintaining professional boundaries. Follow the trip leading procedures at all times Follow health and safety procedures and SU policies at all times. Plan, capture, and create engaging content for social media, especially Instagram. Film and edit Reels and TikToks based on current trends, aligned with our brand voice. Take high-quality photographs of students and destinations for use in promotional materials. To attend a briefing and debriefing per trip. These will usually be in the Students’ Union building on the Friday before and Monday/Tuesday after each trip at a mutually convenient time. There may be exceptions where these can be done on different days or virtually. There may be additional responsibilities that fall within the scope of the role. This could include (but is not limited to) leading tours of destinations (notes will be provided) and briefing/debriefing volunteers. Social media is always evolving, and you’d be expected to adapt to new platforms, trends and ways of working as appropriate. Availability and schedule of work: Shifts will be at weekends in term time. The exact hours will vary week-on-week but trips typically last from the early morning until early evening. Trip return times are estimated and can vary depending on traffic. There will be a total of two hours unpaid breaks per trip in which you’ll have free time to explore the destination. There will be an estimated 2 days worth of work per month, though this may vary and is not guaranteed. Confident in public speaking and able to communicate clearly with large groups. A friendly and personable individual who can connect with a diverse group of students Able to manage and give clear & precise instructions to volunteers(s) as needed as well as the ability to work independently. Ability to work professionally with coach drivers and other external partners, maintaining positive relationships while confidently representing students' needs. Strong time management. Strong problem solving skills, including knowing when to escalate issues. Experience in using social media platforms for either personal or work use. Creative and confident in developing content that is fun, engaging, and on-brand. Experience producing video content and short-form videos (e.g. Reels, TikToks). Good attention to detail, including spelling, grammar, and visual presentation. Confident taking high-quality photos for marketing and memory-making purposes. Passionate about creating great student experiences and delivering excellent service at all times. The ability to start and engage in conversations. Able to engage with students and promote the Give it a Go brand through your actions and content. To be willing to use your own phone for content creation. Desirable Criteria: First aid trained. Basic knowledge of health and safety procedures. Familiarity with the destinations that Give it a Go visits. A genuine interest in travel and exploration. Ability to speak Welsh at a conversational level. Additional languages are a bonus. Experience working with people from different cultures and backgrounds. A high level of physical fitness to lead Pen y Fan trips (most trips do not involve a significant amount of walking and successful applicants who do not meet this criteria will be allocated to other trips).
