Position Description
Position Summary
The Assistant Coach/Administrative Coordinator & Recruiter supports the Head Coach for their assigned sport(s). In that support role, the Assistant Coach/Administrative Coordinator & Recruiting Coordinator is responsible for performance analysis and skill development as well as performing administrative duties and coordinating program recruiting efforts. This position will also help to operate a program for student-athletes, with differing abilities and skills, and serve as a role model in meeting our complimentary goals in Athletics of “Pursuing Athletic Excellence…Developing Christian Character.”
Education Required
BS/BA in appropriate field
Education Preferred
Experience Required
1 year coaching experience,, preferably in collegiate athletics, and college playing experience.
Experience Preferred
Some experience with athletics recruiting and administration preferred
Skills, Characteristics Required for Position
• Ability to coach, teach, and train student-athletes in skills and strategies specific to their sport
• Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the stages of student development and the importance of holistic education
• Ability to establish appropriate and effective mentoring relationships with student-athletes
• Ability to be a supportive team player within the department and the University
• Ability to communicate effectively
• A working knowledge of computer programs and systems.
• Demonstrated commitment to continued learning/professional development (i.e., attend conferences, clinics, workshops)

Primary Duties
1. Analyze performance and instruct athletes in skills, techniques and strategies in preparation for competition and during contests.
2. Assist the head coach, as directed, in the coordination of general administrative duties (including budgeting, game scheduling, travel plans, meeting requests for information, hiring of officials, and business procedures).
3. Communicate with the athletic trainer, sports information director, facilities assignor, and department administrators as directed by the head coach.
4. In coordination with the head coach, plan, organize, implement, and evaluate recruiting and scouting activities.
5. Assist, as directed by the head coach, the Associate Athletics Director for Facilities in matters for which s/he is responsible including ordering and inventorying of equipment, and maintenance and use of facilities for contests and practices.
6. Adhere to and follow all rules and guidelines of Messiah University, the Middle Atlantic Conference and the NCAA .
7. Act as Game Supervisor for a portion of events in the Fall and Winter – arrive two hours before game time; ensure student Game Managers are present and preparing for the game; assist with any game management duties as necessary.
8. Maintain consistent and reliable attendance.
