Job Summary
We are seeking a commercially minded and analytical Category Manager to join our purchasing team. This role blends strategic category planning with hands-on day-to-day purchasing activity and is ideal for someone who enjoys both big-picture thinking and rolling up their sleeves operationally.

You will take ownership of a product category end-to-end, making informed speculative purchasing decisions, working with loose or evolving forecasts, and independently determining stock and purchasing requirements. The successful candidate will be confident analysing data, identifying trends, and balancing risk versus opportunity to ensure strong product availability while optimising margins and stock levels.

This is a fast-paced, high-SKU environment suited to someone who thrives on accountability, commercial decision-making, and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities
Take full ownership of assigned product categories including purchasing strategy and performance.
Analyse sales data, trends and seasonal demand to independently forecast purchasing needs.
Conduct speculative buying using market intelligence, historical data and commercial judgement.
Negotiate pricing, contracts and delivery terms with international suppliers.
Monitor stock levels daily and proactively adjust purchasing to prevent overstocking or shortages.
Build and maintain strong supplier partnerships to improve cost, quality and lead times.
Work closely with Sales, Marketing, Warehouse and Finance teams to align purchasing with business goals.
Identify opportunities for cost savings, margin improvement and range optimisation.
Monitor supplier performance and resolve quality or delivery issues promptly.
Raise and manage purchase orders and maintain accurate procurement records.
Ensure all procurement activity complies with company policies and industry regulations.

What We're Looking For
Proven experience in a Category Manager, Senior Buyer or Commercial Purchasing role.
Experience working with limited, variable or evolving forecasts and making independent purchasing decisions.
Strong analytical skills with confidence interpreting sales data and trends.
Experience in parts, accessories or high-SKU environments is highly desirable.
Excellent negotiation and supplier relationship management skills.
Strong commercial awareness and risk-management mindset.
Highly organised with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
Proficient in Microsoft Excel and ERP/procurement systems.
Professional, reliable and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.
