About the Role
We are growing our regional maritime teams and are recruiting a Principal Ports/Maritime Engineer (Design Manager/Associate) to join our maritime team in Scotland and North East England. Projects include refurbishment of linkspans, pier works, breakwater works, STAG and OBC studies for new ferry terminals and ferries, long sea outfalls, cooling water intake and outfall systems, and redevelopment of former shipyard sites.
Job Description
Reporting to the unit Maritime Account Leader, you will:
* Deliver projects within the maritime sector with high technical standards.
* Guide and develop junior team members on technical aspects of projects.
* Collaborate constructively with colleagues, sharing knowledge freely.
* Conform to quality, health & safety, and environmental management procedures.
* Manage multiple projects concurrently, using planning tools and collaborating on resource demand.
* Track and monitor performance, recover and bring projects to successful outcomes.
* Contribute to bidding and winning work, defining key selling points and added value.
* Assist with fee calculation, commercial risk assessment, and present the commercial case for approval.
Qualifications & Experience
* Degree qualified and a chartered member of a relevant institution (e.g., ICE).
* Proven experience in commission management and leading design teams.
* Strong client support skills.
* Clear and precise communication skills, verbally and in written reports.
Desirable: knowledge or experience of contract administration, coastal structure design, new client relationship development, and securing new business within the ports and maritime sector.
About You
You are a Civil or Structural Engineer with experience in the design of port and maritime facilities, involved in preparing specifications and contract documentation. You have a collaborative approach, are comfortable in client‑facing roles, and can lead and mentor project teams. You are well‑organised with strong planning and management skills, and able to handle technical, commercial and personal interfaces.
