The Construction Apprenticeship will provide an exciting alternative to full-time education and an opportunity to gain valuable work experience, skills and qualifications in a particular trade. Apprentices will not only learn basic skills but will be given the opportunity to gain more responsibility and put new skills into practice. To install and maintain a wide range of electrical works including Street Lighting, Floodlighting, Illuminated signs, Traffic Signals, Navigational Aids, Depots, Offices. \n\nApprentices will not only learn basic skills but will be given the opportunity to gain more responsibility and put new skills into practice. The successful applicant will: Repair and maintain Street Lighting, Floodlighting, Illuminated signs, Traffic Signals, Navigational Aids, Depots, Offices under guidance, instruction and training. Undertake work experience with fully qualified tradesperson carrying out day to day housing repairs and maintenance together with other repairs to Council \nproperties.\n\nAttend vocational education at local colleges on a block release or day release basis. \n\nWork towards achievement of an SVQ in a chosen trade (joiner, plumber, electrician, painter or builder). \n\nWork under supervision at a large variety of locations and using specialist tools and equipment. \n\nComplete all necessary portfolios of work for achievement of training modules within agreed timetables. \n\nEnsure implementation of and adherence to health & safety policy and procedures. \n\nWork as part of a team repairing and maintaining the Street Lighting, Floodlighting, Illuminated signs, Traffic Signals, Navigational Aids, Depots, Offices. \n\nUndertake training as required. Report Directly to Lighting & Communications Engineer North. \n\nMaintain our current Street Lighting stock. Install new Street Lighting installations. \n\nDrive and Operate the Councilâs Mobile Elevating Working Platform vehicles. \n\nCarry out electrical installation and maintenance work in Highland Council depots and offices. \n\nEnsure compliance with Electricity at Work Act & 18th Edition of the IEE Wiring Regulations. \n\nImplementation of Councilâs Quality Assurance Systems. \n\nInput of data into Councilâs Management System. \n\nWilling to work out with normal hours and take part in the Councilâs Emergency Call out System. \n\nDuring the Apprenticeship you will undertake the following qualification: SVQ 3 in Electrical Installation SCQF Level 7 \n\nThis is a 4 year Modern Apprenticeship programme. The successful candidate must be willing to undertake some self study.\n Practical experience attained at school.\n\nWork Experience (ideally in the industry). \n\nGenuine interest in trade skills e.g., DIY at home. \n\nAbility to develop further skills and acquire further knowledge and understanding. \n\nWilling and keen to undertake relevant SVQ qualifications. Ability to listen and follow instruction. \n\nAbility to organise own workload. Displays genuine interest in chosen trade. \n\nDisplays positive attitude. Respects other and customer focussed. \n\nAbility to work as part of a team. Willing to learn and show commitment and enthusiasm. \n\nAbility to communicate effectively with a range of audiences on various topics. \n\nCommitment to providing service to the public. \n\nSelf-motivated. \n\nGood attendance record. \n\nHave a minimum of 1 National 4 Qualification. \n\nThe candidate must carry out a course of study which will involve work place guided learning, self-study and attend vocational education at the chosen training on a block release basis. Year 1 17 weeks over 4 Blocks. Year 2 11 Weeks over 4 Blocks. Year 3 1 Week (Inspecting Testing). Candidate Portfolio & FICA Test .
