Overview
An opportunity has arisen for a Planning Officer within the Spatial Planning team at Gateshead Council. It is a busy and exciting time in the Spatial Planning Team as we are updating the joint Local Plan with Newcastle. You will join us as work progresses the Local Plan, along with other planning documents and evidence, working with others to help the Council achieve its objectives. You will be required to provide policy advice in response to planning applications, pre-application enquiries and other spatial development issues, and liaise with other Council services, including outside agencies such as the combined authority.

Responsibilities

* Liaise with other Council services and outside agencies such as the combined authority.
* Contribute to updating the Local Plan and other planning documents and evidence.
* Work with others to help the Council achieve its objectives.
Experience, Qualifications and Skills
* Experience
o 5 GCSEs grade C (Level 4) or above including Mathematics and English or equivalent.
o Working towards or hold a degree in Town Planning, Geography or equivalent.
o Managing your own workload; working on your own initiative and collaboratively with others.
o Presenting and writing reports for a variety of audiences; monitoring, IT and digital planning.
o Additional relevant experience and working on more complex issues and major projects with the minimum of supervision; supervising members of the team (for higher grades).
* Knowledge
o A wider understanding of the town and country planning system, legislation and new approaches.
o Demonstrating effective negotiation skills; taking the lead and coordinating key projects or work.
o New approaches to consultation and presenting information.
* Skills
o Monitoring, IT and digital planning.
o Good presentation, negotiation and report writing skills.
