Overview
The Nursing Auxiliary plays a vital role in providing compassionate and high-quality care to patients in various healthcare settings. This position involves working closely with nursing staff to support patient needs, assist with daily activities, and ensure a safe and comfortable environment for all individuals under care. The ideal candidate will possess a diverse skill set, including experience in critical care, long-term care, and various medical environments.
Responsibilities
* Assist patients with daily living activities such as bathing, dressing, and grooming.
* Monitor and record vital signs, including blood pressure, temperature, and pulse.
* Provide support in medication administration as directed by nursing staff.
* Maintain accurate medical documentation and records in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
* Utilize EMR/EHR systems for patient management and documentation.
* Collaborate with healthcare team members to develop and implement individualized care plans.
* Assist with mobility needs using equipment such as Hoyer lifts.
* Provide companionship and emotional support to patients, particularly those with developmental disabilities or cognitive impairments such as Alzheimer's or dementia.
* Ensure cleanliness and safety of the patient environment by following aseptic techniques.
* Participate in patient education regarding health management and wellness.
Qualifications
* Experience in critical care, hospital medicine, or emergency medicine preferred.
* Familiarity with medical terminology, anatomy knowledge, and physiology knowledge is essential.
* Prior experience in long-term care facilities such as nursing homes or assisted living environments is advantageous.
* Knowledge of phlebotomy techniques and vital sign monitoring is beneficial.
* Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities or behavioral health needs is a plus.
* Proficiency in using EMR systems like Epic, Cerner, eClinicalWorks, or similar platforms is desirable.
* Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required; additional certifications related to geriatrics or pediatrics are a plus.
* Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a team-oriented environment are essential.
