Associate Director, Global Material Excellence
Location: Portsmouth, NH. Relocation assistance is available for eligible candidates and their families, if needed. This role can also be based in any of our major locations as long as the candidate sticks to the On-site/Hybrid Work Policy of that site.
The Associate Director, Raw Materials Expert, provides functional and technical leadership for Lonza’s global raw material and single-use technology strategies. This role evaluates and optimizes material management processes across the network, ensuring compliance and efficiency. Acting as a cross-functional leader, the position maintains control strategies, develops best practices, and authors global guidance in collaboration with manufacturing, Quality, Regulatory, and Procurement teams. It is critical for future-proofing material management and driving consistent standards globally.

What you will do
6. Serve as global SME for raw and single-use materials, defining specifications, control strategies, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
7. Provide technical expertise on material impact to process performance and product quality; support manufacturing, investigations, and improvement projects.
8. Lead second sourcing evaluations and assess alternative materials for quality, compliance, and testing/release requirements.
9. Author and manage global change controls for material specifications; collaborate with sites to implement changes with minimal operational impact.
10. Partner with Procurement, Quality, and technical teams to align supplier/material selection with global strategy and governance.
11. Develop strategies and processes for introducing new materials, harmonizing global standards with local procedures; maintain tools and reporting for material management.
12. Prepare technical documentation, risk assessments, and regulatory responses; support audits/inspections and deliver global training on material-related topics.
What we are looking for
13. Bachelor's Degree in Life Sciences/Engineering/Chemistry or other relevant discipline
14. 15+ years of Materials Science experience (e.g. QC, QA, MSAT)
15. Tech Transfer with emphasis on raw materials and leaning into single-use materials
16. Material Qualification, including establishing material specifications
17. Significant Experience leading and working in cross-functional teams
18. Project Management and IT tools
