Job overview
Service Manager – Acute, Care of the Elderly and Specialist Medicine
We are looking for a skilled and motivated Service Manager to join our team at Newham University Hospital. This role sits within one of the largest and most complex directorates in one of the biggest Trusts in the country, offering both challenge and real opportunity. While we face the same financial and operational pressures as most NHS organisations, we are also driving significant improvement work through the We Improve programme, making this an exciting time to join us. Working closely with the Associate General Manager, you will provide operational leadership across Acute Medicine, Care of the Elderly and Specialist Medicine services. You will bring strong performance management skills, an understanding of complex clinical pathways, and the ability to lead service development initiatives. You will also work closely with your teams, colleagues and partners to support wider directorate improvements.
Main duties of the job
Your ability to engage staff, lead through change and act as an operational, visible manager will be essential. You will contribute to productivity and efficiency schemes, so good business and financial awareness will be important. We are looking for someone who is flexible, operationally confident and comfortable constructively challenging existing ways of working while building positive and trusting relationships across all staff groups. You will be focused on delivering high-quality services and excellent patient experience, and you will work alongside a high-performing operational team who will support you to be successful in the role. Reporting to the Associate General Manager, and working closely with Clinical Leads and Matrons, you will help ensure we meet our quality, regulatory and performance standards. You will also line manage the Assistant Service Manager for Acute, CoE and Specialist Medicine. This is a great opportunity to join a committed and supportive team in a high-profile service, offering strong development, stretch and meaningful operational experience.
