The Major Trauma Service at the Royal Preston Hospital provides critical life and limb saving treatment for patients who have sustained serious traumatic injuries. As the regional Major Trauma Centre we operate within the Lancashire and South Cumbria Major Trauma Network and work collaboratively to ensure our patients receive the best possible care and outcome.
Main duties of the job
You will ensure data is collected in line with information governance rules and the national data requirements. You will also support the clinical teams in the identification of eligible patients and in the extraction and analysis of major trauma data reports. Working closely with key contacts across the Trust and external organisations the post holder will also support service developments and the interpretation of data.
You must demonstrate excellent organisational and analytical skills, be flexible in approach, able to exercise initiative, and consistently promote high standards and integrity. You must always act in a professional manner in maintaining the reputation of the Major Trauma Service and Trust.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Identification of patients who meet the National Major Trauma Registry injury eligibility criteria.
Complete data submissions that meet the data quality requirements, within the defined timeframe.
Creation of data submission reports and data extraction.
Participate in the continuous improvement of the Major Trauma Service.
Provide administrative support.

Knowledge & Experience
Essential criteria
1. Knowledge of the healthcare setting
2. Previous data submission and administrative experience
3. Experience of deriving key messages from complex information and large data sets and presenting in a user friendly format
4. Experience of managing a varied range of tasks and activities
5. Proficient at setting up and using Excel spreadsheets
6. Experience of managing large clinical/non clinical datasets
7. Proficient in the use of using Microsoft excel or similar software and experience of analysing data sets.
8. Confident email and internet user, experience of gathering information from internet sources.
Desirable criteria
9. Understanding of Major Trauma systems and challenges
10. An awareness of other quality initiatives in the NHS
11. Experience in NMTR data submissions
Qualifications & Education
Essential criteria
12. Good general level of education including a minimum of 3 GCSE’s or equivalent including English & Mathematics
