Phlebotomist
Closing date: 15 April 2026.
We are looking for two part‑time phlebotomists to cover maternity leave and secondments. The role is fixed‑term for 12 months and is based at UHW & UHL sites.
Part‑time hours are 20 per week, worked over five mornings/days. Post holders will work on rotation including a Saturday or Sunday morning and bank holidays. The department may require a service start at 7am with advanced notice.
As a phlebotomist you will:
* Take blood samples from patients, ensuring safe handling and labeling for laboratory testing.
* Transport laboratory samples safely between sites within the University Health Board, including UHW, UHL, Barry Hospital, St Davids, the Emergency Unit and GP practices.
* Work with patients of all ages, using appropriate techniques for children, adults and the elderly.
* Maintain health and safety standards, including safe phlebotomy practices and the handling of sharps.
* Collaborate with laboratory staff to support accurate and timely diagnosis of diseases and conditions.
* Participate in ongoing training and support for up to 12 weeks, with continued professional development thereafter.
* A 7am service start may be required; advanced notice will be given.
Key requirements:
* Ability to travel promptly to meet service needs.
* Strong interpersonal skills – trustworthy, respectful, caring, and acting with integrity and personal responsibility.
* GCSE grades C and above.
* Welsh and/or English fluency – Welsh is desirable but not mandatory.
