Support Worker (male support staff only) for a non-verbal man with autism, emotional and complex needs in Salisbury, Wiltshire.
This role has a genuine occupational requirement for a male worker under Schedule 9, Part 1 of the Equality Act 2010 due to the needs set out in the care plan.
We are recruiting for one full-time position and several part-time and bank/casual positions to support the same service user. Final role and hours offered will depend on candidate suitability, availability, and the outcome of the recruitment process including meet-and-greet sessions with the service user. A driving licence is essential for the full-time role. For part-time and bank/casual roles a licence is desirable but not essential.
Full time position: Annual salary approximately £40,680 based on £18 per hour for day shifts and £89.10 per sleep‑in.
Your role will assist the service team manager and provide hands‑on support. You will be the most present senior on site when the manager is off shift.
Rota pattern
* Monday: Evening + sleep‑in, starting 8pm
* Tuesday to Thursday: Split shifts 8:30am–10am and 6pm–sleep
* Friday: Morning 8:30am–10am. On rota‑d weekends, work Fri 2pm–sleep instead
* Weekends: 8 per year. A worked weekend = Fri 2pm–sleep, Sat 8:30am–6pm, Sun 10am–sleep, Mon 8:30am–2pm

Job Summary
Seeking male support workers for a non‑verbal 33‑year‑old man with autism and complex needs to live in his own home. No experience needed – full training and shadowing provided. Robust care plan forms the service structure.
Company car (automatic) available while supporting service user. Automatic driving licence essential for full‑time position.
We seek long‑term permanent staff. This is a unique, person‑centred service built around the service user’s needs. He doesn’t require regular medication or personal care except hair cuts and shaving. Due to rota pattern and emergency cover needs, applicants must have availability for all scheduled shifts including at short notice.
Recruitment process
1. Phone call to discuss role
2. 30‑60 min meet and greet with service user + first interview
3. 2 hour second interview
4. Up to 2 days unpaid trial shifts
5. Paid training and shadow shifts if offered the job
Communication requirements
The person we support has specific communication and language needs in their care plan. Applicants must communicate clearly in spoken English and be easily understood by the person we support. Assessed at interview.
Training and shadow shifts
Dates/times mutually agreed, may be any day of the week and/or up to 1 weekend a month. Please ensure you can take part fully in training.
Holiday pay
6 weeks fully paid annual leave on the basic rota.
Night sleep‑in
£89.10 per sleep, 10:30pm–8:30am. Rate is increased from national £34 to compensate should you be awake.
Overtime
£18 per day hour and £89.10 per sleep‑in. In line with holiday pay guidelines, holiday pay is not paid on irregular overtime.
You will be paid monthly in arrears via PAYE through Wiltshire Council payroll. Payslip provided.
