Lead Civil & Structural Designer

About the role
We are working with a major UK infrastructure engineering and construction company that delivers complex projects across sectors including transport, water, energy and defence. The organisation provides a range of services covering engineering, consulting, project delivery and asset management, supporting the development and maintenance of critical national infrastructure.
Working within a multidisciplinary team, and often with minimal supervision or guidance, you will lead the production and development of civil and structural CAD design deliverables for pipeline projects. This includes producing and coordinating 3D models, technical drawings and sketches to support projects from concept through to detailed design.
Key Responsibilities
1. Lead the production and development of civil and structural CAD deliverables including 3D models, drawings and sketches.
2. Prepare design solutions across all project stages from concept to detailed design in both 2D and 3D for civil and structural, temporary and permanent works as directed by Senior, Principal or Lead Engineers.
3. Use Aveva E3D for 3D BIM modelling and 2D drawing extraction.
4. Use Autodesk Civil 3D and AutoCAD for elements of civil design.
5. Work within a Common Data Environment to manage and coordinate design information.
6. Ensure draughting activities are delivered within budget and programme while maintaining technical integrity.
7. Ensure all work complies with relevant codes, standards and procedures.
8. Maintain and develop awareness of current industry codes and standards.
9. Implement company and client policies and project procedures where applicable.
10. Communicate effectively with other disciplines to ensure interfaces are clearly defined and correctly designed.
11. Liaise with other departments, project teams, vendors and clients as required.
Candidate Requirements
12. Qualified to City & Guilds, HNC or HND level in a relevant discipline.
13. EngTech or IEng ICE professional qualification is advantageous.
14. Experience with 4D simulation, construction sequencing and clash detection software would be beneficial.
15. Competent in the design and detailing of foundations and below-ground infrastructure including drainage and cable ducting, as well as steel and concrete structures.
16. Experience with reinforced concrete detailing is advantageous.
17. Strong communication skills with the ability to coordinate, delegate and manage design tasks.
