Job Overview
Public Dental Officer – Isle of Barra, NHS Western Isles.
Salary: £54,117 - £81,174 (pro rata). Distant Islands Allowance: £1,406 per annum (pro rata). 30 hours per week, permanent post.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will provide dental care for priority group patients, particularly children and adult patients who require additional support. The role includes providing care in static clinical environments as well as in care homes and domiciliary settings. The post holder will participate in the provision of out‑of‑hours care on a rotational basis with colleagues, and may be required to travel to other areas depending on clinical commitment.

Allowances and Benefits
* Distant Islands Allowance of £1,406 per annum (pro rata)
* Remote Areas Allowance of £4,500 - £9,000 per annum (pro rata)
* Recruitment and Retention Allowance of £25,000 paid over 2 years (subject to eligibility as set out in PCA (D) (2024)1)
* Out‑of‑Hours Allowance & on‑call payment (for participation in on‑call duties)
* Up to 33 days annual leave per annum plus 8 public holidays (depending on NHS service)
Requirements
Applicants must register with the PVG Scheme (Protecting Vulnerable Groups Scheme). The post is not eligible for relocation expenses.
