Are you passionate about making education accessible for all? We are looking for an enthusiastic and resilient One-to-One Support Worker to join our dedicated team, supporting students with visual impairments.
About the Role
In this rewarding position, you will work closely with visually impaired students across the college and age ranges, helping them access the curriculum and develop greater independence. You’ll play a key role in adapting learning materials and supporting students in a creative, practical, and tailored manner.
Key Responsibilities
1. Provide one-to-one support for students with visual impairments across various subjects.
2. Adapt and create accessible learning materials using Microsoft Word and Moon.
3. Think creatively to present information in hands-on, engaging ways that meet learning objectives.
4. Encourage and support the development of students’ independence skills.
5. Collaborate with teaching staff to ensure inclusive learning experiences.
What We’re Looking For
* Strong interpersonal skills and a positive, proactive attitude.
* A good basic understanding of IT, particularly in creating accessible documents.
* A willingness to learn and use Braille and Moon (training will be provided).
* A creative and flexible approach to problem-solving and resource adaptation.
* Experience with Braille and Moon is desirable but not essential.
* Experience supporting students with visual impairments is desirable but not essential.
* Completed training related to supporting students with visual impairments is desirable but not essential.
Ellesmere College provides education for up to 439 children and young people, from 4 to 19 years, with a range of moderate to complex learning difficulties.
This is an exciting time for Ellesmere College as we expand from 2 to 3 sites, including our new Post-16 centre, enabling us to offer bespoke educational opportunities, especially for students with complex needs, including autism and communication difficulties.
