We are looking for a male Community Support Worker to join our team in Poole, where you’ll become a trusted companion to a young man we support. Your role will be to encourage him to live more independently—whether that’s supporting with everyday tasks at home, exploring new hobbies and interests, or gaining experience through work placements.
Due to the needs George has, we can only accept applications from male candidates with a background in health and social care. A Genuine Occupational Requirement applies under Schedule 9, Paragraph 1 of the Equality Act 2010. This role is therefore only open to males, referring to the sex legally assigned at birth.
Please note: Autism Unlimited does not provide visa sponsorship. To be considered for this role, you must hold a Full UK driving licence, though access to your own vehicle is not essential.
The role
George uses visual aids to help him plan and understand his day. We have been fortunate to work with George since the start of 2025 as he is taking part in our 'Futures' project and was welcomed into our adult services programme in March.
George enjoys activities such as:
* Cinema trips to watch new films
* Singalongs at the local Karaoke club
* Swimming laps at the community pool
* On rainy days, playing board games or listening to music indoors
George is supported on a 1:1 basis and relies on his support staff. He requires assistance with personal care, medication, and meal preparation.
Your role will involve providing meaningful support, including helping with daily routines like food preparation, shopping, personal care, and accompanying him as he accesses the community and pursues interests. You may also assist with administering medication to support his wellbeing.
Hours:
20 hours per week, with shifts between 7am and 10pm, Monday to Sunday, including alternate weekends and sleep-ins (sleep-ins are paid additionally).
Benefits include:
* A rewarding job with variety and career development opportunities
* 12-week induction programme with training, shadowing, coaching, and mentoring
* Opportunity to complete an accredited qualification after probation
* Access to an internal learning portal for skills development
* Cycle to work scheme
* Up to 33 days annual leave (pro-rata, including bank holidays)
* Employee referral scheme earning £400 per successful referral
* Benefits portal with discounts and cashback healthcare plans
* 24-hour Employee Assistance Programme for support on various issues
* Network of Mental Health First Aiders
