About Us
We have an exciting opportunity for Field Engineers or Oceanographic Engineers to join our innovative and growing company, specialising in the delivery of real-time marine data for coastal and marine data management, publishing, and decision support. We design, build, and support reliable marine monitoring solutions for ports, harbours, and coastal applications across the UK and worldwide. As a small, friendly, and flexible team, we value every idea and encourage collaboration. We take pride in our culture of teamwork, technical excellence, and continuous innovation.
The Role
We’re looking for a Field Engineer or Oceanographic Engineer to play a key role in the design, integration, installation, and maintenance of our marine environmental monitoring systems. You’ll be involved in installing and maintaining a range of oceanographic equipment, including tide gauges, weather stations, current meters, wave radars, buoys, and optical sensors, ensuring a reliable flow of critical data across the network — something both you and OceanWise will be proud of. Your work will take place both in our Alton workshop and out in the field — in ports, harbours, and occasionally overseas — to make sure every system performs to the highest standard. We also offer flexible hybrid working options.
Key Responsibilities
* Design and assemble marine environmental monitoring systems, including installation, configuration, and maintenance onsite.
* Test and commission systems both in the workshop and at customer sites (typically within port and harbour facilities).
* Take ownership and responsibility for your part in projects.
* Contribute to the support system OceanWise provide to their customers; responding to support cases and working to solve customer issues.
* Undertake geodetic and digital levelling and accurately record data, and produce field reports (training provided).
* Attend project and internal/external meetings, complete risk assessments and method statements, and prepare site survey and installation reports.
* Support project planning, scheduling, and equipment procurement.
* Apply best practice in both workshop and field environments.
* Be willing to travel within the UK (typically 1–5 days away) and occasionally overseas (up to 14 days) to support OceanWise’s monitoring projects.
About You
We’re flexible about your background — what matters most is your curiosity, technical capability, and enthusiasm for working in this field. You might have experience in areas such as:
* System integration
* Electronics or networking
* Mechanical engineering
* Oceanography or marine fieldwork
* Project management
Or you may simply be eager to grow in this exciting and varied role. If you’re practical, adaptable, and enjoy solving problems in real-world environments, we’d love to hear from you. We’re looking for candidates with at least three years of relevant experience, but the type of experience can vary. If you have the skills and enthusiasm to succeed, get in touch — we’d love to explore what you can bring to our team and what we can offer you in return.
What We Offer

* Opportunities to take ownership of projects and tasks
* Travel opportunities in the UK and abroad
* Competitive salary within the industry
* 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays
* Long day field work benefits

No decision on the role until Jan 2026.
