Job Summary
Our welcoming and supportive Adult Community Mental Health Service in Ware has the opportunity to recruit a Senior Social Worker to lead and manage staff within the multidisciplinary team, ensuring delivery of Care Act expectations for social care and safeguarding.
All Senior Social Workers must be registered with Social Work England.

Main duties of the job
* Promote, lead and act in accordance with the principles of personalisation, working to promote wellbeing and enabling individuals’ rights to choice and control within a multidisciplinary mental health team.
* Provide robust, consistent, and expert social care practice advice in partnership with other specialist senior social care colleagues.
* Support newly qualified social workers through the Assessed and Supported Year in Employment (ASYE), acting as an ASYE assessor and engaging in the ASYE moderation process.
* Undertake duties as an Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) or be willing to undertake AMHP training.

Job Responsibilities
* Champion social care with a comprehensive understanding of legislation and statutory guidance.
* Maintain regular links and attend meetings with the corporate Social Work and Safeguarding Team, providing accurate, consistent, and robust social care advice.
* Undertake complex assessments for people with high-risk or significant social and legal complexities, ensuring eligibility against the Care Act 2014 criteria.
* Offer direct support to service users, carers and colleagues, ensuring appropriate signposting for those who do not meet social care eligibility.
Person Specification
Essential
* Appropriate professional social work qualification.
* Registration with General Social Work England.
* Degree-level education; Masters or equivalent training preferred.
* Approved Mental Health Professional training and qualification (or commitment to undertake training within one year of appointment).
* Relevant post‑qualifying training for social workers.
* Minimum five years post‑qualification experience with evidence of excellent practice at an advanced level.
* Extensive knowledge of legislation, statutory guidance, theory, and policy in adult and child social care.
* Experience of undertaking assessments focused on personalisation, choice, and control, and of care planning.
* Understanding and experience of using personal budgets and direct payments.
* Experience of supervising and mentoring others.
* Evidence of multidisciplinary and collaborative working.
* Evidence of partnership working with service users and carers, demonstrating dignity and respect, especially in challenging situations.
Desirable
* Post‑qualifying training such as CBT or family therapy.
* Best Interests Assessment training.
