This is an exciting opportunity for Band 6 Occupational Therapists to join the existing Frailty Therapy team at Royal Sussex County Hospital. The team works across three frailty wards, including a specialist dementia ward. Funding is available for 1.5 WTE Occupational Therapists; state the number of hours you prefer in your application.
Main duties of the job
* Provide specialist occupational therapy interventions using evidence‑based, flexible and patient‑centred approaches.
* Work within a multi‑disciplinary team to meet the complex health and social care needs of patients referred to the service.
* Provide OT support within the Frailty Therapy Team, working within an integrated therapy model with physiotherapists.
* Provide supervision and leadership for relevant junior occupational therapy staff in conjunction with the team leader.
* Provide supervision and training for students on practice placement.
* Participate in the planning, development and evaluation of OT services within the designated specialist team.
* Maintain a flexible and adaptable approach to ensure delivery of an excellent OT service across all pathways.

Person specification
Qualifications
* Professional qualification in occupational therapy.
* HCPC registered.
* Evidence of recent and relevant continuing professional development.
Knowledge and experience
* Knowledge of the role of an acute OT in a specialist area and use of assessment, treatment and rehab interventions.
* Experience in assessment and formulation of treatment plans for patients.
* Experience working with patients with complex physical, psychological, emotional, sensory and social needs.
* Experience working with patients, families and carers to communicate complex and sensitive information.
* Experience using standardised and non‑standardised assessment forms.
* Understanding of preceptorship.
Skills
* Ability to prioritise caseloads daily, demonstrate effective time management and delegate appropriately.
* Working autonomously and as part of the wider multi‑disciplinary team.
* Clinical reasoning and prescribing equipment to assist ADLs and adaptations in the home setting.
* Managing under pressure in a rapidly changing hospital environment and supporting other team members.
* Coordinating complex discharges and follow‑up care, supporting junior staff.
* Producing clear, concise written and verbal reports.
* Excellent communication skills to manage clinical or team issues.
* Competent therapeutic handling of patients with or without aids.
* Experience of clinical audit and outcome measures.
* Presentation and training skills.
People management and development
* Providing leadership support when the team is under pressure or the team lead is absent.
* Supporting staff with clinical role and development.
* Developing and maintaining effective working relationships with clients, carers and colleagues.
* Reflecting on and critically appraising own performance.
* Providing formal and informal clinical supervision for students and staff.
* Acting as a practice educator for students.
