About Us:Ilminster Bowling & Tennis Club is a thriving, community-focused members’ club serving over 950 members. As a valued social hub within the town, we offer a vibrant calendar of sporting fixtures, community events, and functions. Our catering service is at the heart of this, delivering meals seven days a week and supporting a variety of functions, from casual match-day meals to full-scale events.
Job Summary:
We are seeking a young or experienced, enthusiastic, and highly motivated Chef / Head Chef to lead our catering department. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality food, managing kitchen operations, ensuring excellent food hygiene standards, and working proactively to develop and grow our catering offering.
Key Responsibilities:
· Lead all aspects of the club’s food provision, ensuring meals are delivered to a high standard for both day-to-day service and special events.
· Plan, design, and cost menus that meet the needs of club members, sports teams, and function attendees.
· Manage food ordering and stock control to ensure efficiency and minimise waste.
· Oversee and maintain all food safety, hygiene, and due diligence procedures in line with current legislation.
· Supervise and schedule waiting and kitchen staff, including liaising with the assistant chef and casual catering staff.
· Work flexibly to meet the demands of the club, including evenings, weekends, and during peak activity times.
· Drive the growth of the catering service by understanding member needs and contributing to the club’s vision and values.
Person Specification:
· Proven experience as a Head Chef or Senior Chef in a busy kitchen environment.
· Strong understanding of food safety, kitchen management, and menu development.
· Excellent leadership and communication skills with the ability to manage a small team.
· Highly organised with a flexible, can-do attitude and the ability to work on your own initiative.
· Passion for food and commitment to delivering excellent service to members and guests.
