Overview
Optometrist position at Mersey & West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, based at St Helens Hospital. The successful post holder will carry out core optometry duties with opportunities to explore extended roles in AMD, Glaucoma and post-operative care with training provided where needed. The post involves working closely with Ophthalmology and Orthoptic teams to deliver high quality, diverse optometric services. Both full-time and part-time candidates will be considered.
Enhanced DBS with barred lists for both Adults and Children is required for this post.
Responsibilities
* Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team delivering Optometric services to children and adults within St Helens Hospital, Community Outreach Clinics and Special Schools, using specialist techniques as appropriate.
* Assess, diagnose and manage patients in both community settings and hospital-based Ophthalmology Service under the guidance of the relevant Consultant lead.
* Initiate follow-up care and arrange onward referral where required.
* Assist the department in providing timely, safe and appropriate care to patients.
* Contribute to the development of Optometrist-delivered secondary care services within the St Helens Ophthalmology Service.
* Participate in audit, review and teaching activities.
Qualifications
* Essential: BSc (Hons) Optometry
* Essential: Registration with the General Optical Council (GOC)
* Essential: Evidence of CPD
Knowledge & Experience
* Essential: IT literate
* Essential: Accurate record keeping
* Essential: Flexible approach to working patterns
* Essential: Ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team
* Essential: Ability to deal with vulnerable adults and children
* Desirable: Postgraduate clinical experience
* Desirable: Previous work in Hospital Eye Service
* Desirable: Previous involvement in clinical/medical audit
* Desirable: Ability to travel to various locations via own car or assisted driver
