Job Description:

Description

Full Time

Why Rolls-Royce?

We are looking to recruit two Health Physics Technicians to join the Radiation Protection team at Rolls-Royce Submarines.

We’re a leader in propulsion system design and development for the Royal Navy’s nuclear submarine fleet and the sole provider and technical authority.

Join us and we’ll provide an environment where you can be yourself. An inclusive, digital-first culture that invests in you, gives you a platform for continuous learning, and access to an incredible breadth and depth of opportunities to grow your career.

The Role:

You will work as part of a team of operational Health Physics Technicians at Raynesway within the Core Production business unit. The vacancy is primarily based at the testing and instrument calibration facility on the Neptune Nuclear Licensed site where ~half your time will be spent calibrating radiation protection instrumentation, and the other half supporting routine monitoring and compliance duties

We offer excellent development, a competitive salary and exceptional benefits. These include bonus, employee support assistance and employee discounts.

What you’ll be doing:

You will undertake workplace monitoring for radiological hazards (radiation, and surface and airborne contamination).

* Keep accurate records of monitoring undertaken and create reports to identify trends in results.
* Ensure radiation protection control measures are adequately implemented at the point of work through adherence to written procedures, safe systems of work and local rules.
* Respond to urgent request for health physics monitoring support.
* Carry out radiological monitoring equipment calibrations and daily checks prior to use.
* Support environmental permitting compliance activities such as liquid and gaseous effluent analysis, and waste monitoring.
* Provide cover for overtime, shifts and on-call support when required.

Who we are looking for :

At Rolls-Royce we embrace agility, are bold, pursue collaboration and seek simplicity in everything we do. These principles form our values and behaviours and are an essential component of our assessment process and are fundamental qualities that we seek for all roles

* You need to be able to ask questions, clarify anything you do not understand, and explain your work and results to employees at a variety of levels.
* You are expected to use computers for office work such as emailing, documenting activities, trending results, and submitting safety observations.
* Motivated and flexible.
* You need to be able to use your own initiative and judgement (within the scope of the role), identify and implement improvements in working procedures, and respond to the ever-changing operational environment.
* A formal qualification such as the NVQ Level 2 in Radiation Protection OR City and Guilds Radiation Safety Practice Stage 1 is desirable.
* Experience working as a Health Physics Technician within the Nuclear Industry is desirable

We’re an equal opportunities employer. We’re committed to developing a diverse workforce and an inclusive working environment. We believe that people from different backgrounds and cultures give us different perspectives. And the more perspectives we have, the more successful we’ll be. By building a culture of respect and appreciation, we give everyone who works here the opportunity to realise their full potential.
