Overview
The post holder will organise day-to-day activities to ensure the cleanliness of the area assigned under the direction of the Housekeeping Manager or Deputy. Responsibilities include cleaning corridors, offices, stairs, toilets, bathrooms, kitchens, dining rooms, theatres and bedrooms on a frequent basis in line with NHS and Trust policies and work schedules.
Responsibilities
* Clean using a variety of tasks and procedures: damp dusting of horizontal and vertical surfaces, high and low cleaning, replenishment of disposable items, emptying waste bins and deep cleans where applicable.
* Ensure correct use, handling, storage and safe usage of chemicals in line with COSHH regulations, data sheets and training.
* Adhere to Infection Control principles in all areas, including colour coded equipment to prevent the spread of infection.
* Observe and monitor environmental condition and report defects via the Trust Estates reporting mechanism; assess and report defects in equipment to maintain quality and safety.
* Maintain clear and accurate records providing documentary evidence that cleaning has taken place.
* Respond to actions from cleaning monitoring audits and surface swabbing audits.
* Adhere to the outlet flushing regime to minimise Legionella in water systems in accordance with technical guidance.
* Report incidents, accidents and near misses via Datix.
* Work in accordance with handling and moving training to protect personal and others’ health and safety, and follow risk assessments and safe systems of work as instructed by the Housekeeping Manager or Deputy.
* Ensure patient privacy and dignity is maintained; follow Lone Working procedures as trained.
* Report problems arising from duties; manage stock security and monitor/re-order stock weekly or as required.
* Undertake surveys as part of the role, including review/testing of new equipment.
* Leave assigned areas secure (close/lock windows and doors, set alarms, switch off lights) where necessary.
* Co-operate with new methods of work or cleaning frequencies; demonstrate tasks to new employees on a work shadowing basis.
* Act as liaison for the service via the trust’s paging system and respond to ad hoc requests.
* Physical duties include operating cleaning equipment (vacuum cleaners, trolleys, mopping machines), moving furniture and handling bags of linen and waste in accordance with Trust procedures.
* Take reasonable care to avoid injury to self and others; cooperate with the employer in statutory duties; ensure hazard signs are used to warn others of cleaning tasks; never leave equipment unattended where it could pose a danger.
Qualifications and Requirements
* Experience of cleaning in the workplace is desirable; NVQ in Housekeeping/Domestic Services is desirable but full training will be provided; completing a certificate in Housekeeping/Domestic Services will be offered to successful applicants.
* The role is physically demanding but rewarding.
