Consultant in Cardiothoracic Anaesthesia with an interest in Paediatric Cardiac Anaesthesia
Applications are invited for an individual to provide high quality anaesthetic care as a Consultant Anaesthetist based within the East Midlands Congenital Heart Centre (EMCHC) at the Leicester Royal Infirmary.
We undertake a range of congenital cardiac cases including surgery for univentricular hearts and catheter procedures such as RVOT stents and PA flow restrictors. Paediatric Cardiac Catheter procedures are undertaken within the new hybrid theatre. The centre is part of an excellent ECMO service for both paediatrics and adults.
Adult congenital cardiac surgery and catheter procedures are carried out at the Glenfield's hospital site and the successful candidate would be expected to provide cross cover.

* Maintenance of the highest clinical standards in the management of patients.

Job Responsibilities
Responsibility for the provision of a safe and efficient anaesthetic service for elective and emergency care at UHL, including pre‑operative assessment and peri‑operative care.
Provide specialist high‑risk anaesthesia outpatient clinic work.
Participate in pre‑assessment clinics and MDT meetings.
Participate in the Paediatric Cardiac Consultant Anaesthetist non‑residenton call rota.
Support the Consultant‑delivered Perioperative Medicine Service.
Work flexibly to support the workload and cover for colleagues' annual leave and other authorised absences.
* Participate in service development and business planning in collaboration with other Consultants, the CMG, local GPs and commissioners within the local CCGs.
* Professional supervision and management of junior medical staff, observing local employment and HR policies and procedures.
* Carry out teaching, examination and accreditation duties, contributing to undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing medical education locally and nationally.
* Participate in medical audit, the Trust's Clinical Governance processes and CPD. Attendance at audit and other governance meetings is mandatory. Managerial, including budgetary responsibilities where appropriate, and compliance with standing orders and financial instructions.
* Ensure all duties are carried out to the highest possible standard, in accordance with GMC Good Medical Practice and current quality initiatives.
* Respond in a timely fashion to legitimate requests from Trust officers, including investigations of incidents or complaints.
* Participate in teaching and training of junior staff and other clinical staff groups. Serve as the person responsible for overseeing their training and providing initial career advice.
* Participate in professional continuing medical education; study leave is provided for this purpose.

Person Specification
Qualifications / Training – Essential
* Full GMC registration
* MB,BS or equivalent
* Fully Accredited for Higher Specialist Training or eligible for inclusion on the Specialist Register within 6 months of interview date, or fulfil CESR requirements and be working towards it.
* FRCA or equivalent
Qualifications / Training – Desirable
* Membership of relevant Specialist Societies or Associations.
* Higher degree (e.g., MSc, MD) or equivalent.
* TOE exam.
Experience / Clinical Skills – Essential
* Fully trained in Anaesthesia.
* Excellent clinical skills and experience requisite to meeting all aspects of the Job Plan.
* Ability to apply sound clinical judgment to problems.
* Cardiothoracic SIA or Fellowship.
* Paediatric Cardiac Anaesthesia.
