Bookkeeper - Part Time
Location: On-site
Contract: Part Time, 3 days per week, Permanent
Hours: 9am-5pm
Working Pattern: Office-based
We are recruiting on behalf of a well‑established construction company, seeking an experienced Bookkeeper to take ownership of day‑to‑day finance operations and support the directors with accurate, timely financial reporting.
This is a hands‑on role ideal for a detail‑driven bookkeeper with strong construction industry experience, confident working closely with an external bookkeeping and accounting partner.
The Role
Reporting directly to the Directors, you will be responsible for the full bookkeeping function, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and smooth financial operations.
Key responsibilities include
* Maintaining accurate books and records using Xero
* Posting and reconciling bank transactions at month end
* Raising and posting sales invoices
* Managing accounts receivable, chasing outstanding debt, and allocating payments
* Posting purchase invoices against issued purchase orders
* Managing accounts payable, reconciling supplier statements, and processing payments
* Preparing and submitting VAT returns on Xero
* Handling CIS submissions and understanding reverse charge VAT
* Preparing monthly management accounts
* Submitting payroll information to the external accountant
* Assisting with year‑end accounts preparation alongside the accountant
Additional Responsibilities
* General administration and support for Directors
* Reception duties and answering calls confidently and professionally
Key Requirements
* Proven experience as a Bookkeeper within the construction industry (essential)
* Strong working knowledge of Xero (essential)
* Solid understanding of VAT, CIS, reverse charge VAT, and construction accounting
* Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills
* Confident communicator with the ability to chase payments tactfully
* Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word
* Able to work under pressure and use initiative
Experience Required
* Bookkeeping: Minimum 5 years (essential)
* Accounting experience: 5 years (preferred)
* Xero: Minimum 5 years (essential)
