Salary: £94,356 to £108,814 commensurate with experience (NHS Agenda for Change 8D)

Plymouth offers an exciting and substantial public health challenge. The successful candidate will apply creativity and innovation to support the health and wellbeing of approximately 265,000 residents in a coastal city with significant deprivation.
Plymouth City Council pursues a system‑wide approach to develop a vibrant waterfront city, promoting an outstanding quality of life for all. The Public Health Directorate covers a wide range of services, including Libraries, Environmental Health, Licensing, Coroners, Registrations, Bereavement Services, Civil Protection, and the Health Determinants Research Collaborative.
Responsibilities
* Lead health improvement initiatives, focusing on smoking cessation, healthy weight, physical activity, and related areas.
* Provide strategic leadership of community empowerment, leisure, and libraries within the Public Health Directorate.
* Collaborate with local communities and partner agencies to address wider determinants of health.
* Commission and support high‑quality primary and secondary health and social care services.
* Manage related budgetary and organisational responsibilities.
* Lead coordination with healthcare public health as required.
Position Details
The post can be full time or part time (minimum 0.8 FTE) with flexibility around working hours or a job share. Further details may be provided upon request.
The role requires an appropriately qualified public‑health professional with excellent problem‑solving, communication, political, and technical skills, plus the energy and drive to contribute to improving health and reducing inequalities in Plymouth.
