Role Overview
An established building services consultancy is seeking an Intermediate Electrical Design Engineer to join its Edinburgh office. The role offers the opportunity to work on a diverse portfolio of projects across the UK, supporting senior engineers in the design and delivery of high-quality electrical building services solutions.
You will contribute to electrical design from concept through to construction, working collaboratively with mechanical engineers, architects, and external stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Assist in the design and development of electrical building services systems, including:
Power distribution
Lighting and lighting controls
Emergency lighting
Small power and data systems
Fire alarm and life safety systems
Produce technical calculations, reports, drawings, and specifications
Support delivery of projects through all RIBA stages
Ensure designs comply with relevant standards and regulations (BS 7671, CIBSE, Building Regulations)
Coordinate with internal and external design teams
Attend project and design team meetings as required
Support site inspections, surveys, and responses to contractor queries
Contribute to continuous improvement of technical standards and processes
Skills & Experience
Degree (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering or Building Services Engineering
Typically 25 years experience in electrical building services design
Working knowledge of UK building services standards and regulations
Experience using industry software such as:
AutoCAD / Revit
Electrical calculation tools (e.g. Amtech, Dialux, Relux or similar)
Ability to work independently on defined tasks with support from senior engineers
Strong communication and coordination skills
Enthusiastic, proactive approach to learning and professional development
Desirable
Progress toward or interest in Chartered Engineer (CEng or IEng) status
Experience across a range of sectors (commercial, residential, education, healthcare, etc.)
Familiarity with sustainable design and low-carbon technologies
