Family Support Worker

Job Description

Job Title Family Support Worker (Powys) based in Llandrindod Wells

Hours of Work 35 hrs per week incl. some evenings & weekends

Salary £24,000- £26,000 per annum (depending on experience)

Tenure Fixed Term until 31st March 2026

Responsible for Families, Volunteers

Responsible to Team Lead, Powys Resettlement Team

Location of Work Based at home with travel to see clients and at least one day a week in the local office

Notes Successful candidate will need to be based near the Llandrindod Wells office.

Because of the nature of the work involved, this post is covered by the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (as amended in 2013). An enhanced DBS will be required for this post.

Successful candidate will have to produce evidence of their right to work in the UK.

Successful candidates will need to undergo an enhanced DBS check.

Ability to speak Arabic is desired.

Project Overview

The Refugee Resettlement Scheme has a long history of supporting Syrian and Afghan families across Powys. The Scheme is funded under contract by Powys County Council to work towards the empowerment of beneficiaries through tailored, tapered support, encouraging independence and integration as opposed to dependency. The scheme will work to help families with a wide range of support needs in a culturally sensitive and holistic manner. The successful candidate will continue the legacy of this project and be a key part of our provision in Powys.

Aims of the Post

1. To deliver the resettlement project in accordance with the requirements of Powys County Council.

2. To provide orientation, direct advice, support and signposting where needed, to a number of families.

3. To work effectively in partnership with agencies in order to improve outcomes for the families.

Principal Accountabilities and Main Duties

1. To ensure provision that is delivered in a culturally sensitive manner and according to the agreed contract specification. This may mean, if required, collecting refugee families from transit points, accompanying them to their allocated home in Powys and providing appropriate orientation support including the provision of utilities, a welcome grocery pack and ensuring their financial and health needs are taken care of.

2. To work directly with families providing them with appropriate advice, guidance, signposting and referrals on a range of issues from education and health to social services, employment and welfare benefits.

3. To work as a team with other project workers and volunteers to ensure the safe delivery of all project activities.

4. To manage and support a caseload from the client group, providing them with appropriate support and liaising with a variety of external agencies as relevant to their situation, tapering downwards as independence increases.

5. To actively engage with key statutory agencies such as Social Services, Schools, Police, etc and act as a key worker as required.

6. To build active partnerships with other organisations to ensure effective cross-referral and effective pooling of resources as appropriate to give the best possible service to the client group.

7. To liaise with key agencies and attend network events as appropriate in order to facilitate integration into mainstream provision.

8. Engage with and inform schools and other key statutory and voluntary sector organisations about the project and establish referral pathways.

General Duties

1. To ensure regular reporting and updates to partners and within EYST as required. This will include the collection of data for monthly KPIs and updates on the families.

2. To ensure the collection, entry and return of information as required for monitoring and evaluation, input onto EYST’s CRM system (Charitylog).

3. To take part in training courses, staff meetings and regular supervision. In particular there is an expectation that training will include Safeguarding Training in accordance with the All Wales Child Protection Procedures and CYSUR Guidance and Procedures (refreshed every three years), as well as training on Domestic Violence in accordance with the National Training Framework on violence against women, domestic violence and sexual violence – this training will be compulsory and provided by EYST.

4. To work within relevant health and safety legislation.

5. To ensure that the project promotes and reflects equality of opportunity at all levels.

6. To ensure that EYST Safeguarding, Data Protection, Health and Safety and all other relevant policies are implemented.

7. To uphold the confidentiality of information of clients.

8. To carry out any other duties that may from time to time be require

9. To support EYST’s External Training Delivery.

Person Specification

Desirable

1. Ability to speak Arabic.

Essential

2. A minimum of one year’s experience of working with refugees, asylum seekers or BME families and communities.

3. Experience of working in partnership with statutory and voluntary organisations, and knowledge of local provision.

4. Knowledge, understanding and empathy for issues affecting children and families from ethnic minority backgrounds, including Refugees, Asylum seekers and people who are vulnerable/have experience of trauma.

5. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills (including with clients and professionals) including communication using software packages such as Microsoft Outlook and Word.

6. Ability to work under pressure in challenging environments.

7. Ability to work independently, with minimum supervision, and take initiative.

8. Ability to comply with Health & Safety procedures in different environments.

9. Ability and experience to record and monitor projects.

10. A car owner/driver.

11. Knowledge and understanding of Safeguarding including Digital Safeguarding issues.

12. Understanding and knowledge of confidentiality including GDPR.

13. Organised and self-motivated.

14. Excellent IT skills, confident using online engagement platforms including Zoom and Teams.

15. Demonstrable commitment to EYST’s organisational values of Equality, Human Rights, Social Justice and Making a Positive Difference.
