Consultant Psychiatrist & Medical Director – Female Personality Disorders

Join Cygnet Nield House, a 29‑bed mental health hospital for women located in Crewe, Cheshire. The role is full‑time, with 0.2 WTE as Medical Director and 0.8 WTE as Consultant Psychiatrist, overseeing the 14‑bed Clarion Ward for female personality disorder patients with co‑morbid eating disorders.

We are seeking an experienced, full‑time Medical Director & Consultant Psychiatrist who will provide senior medical cover and lead clinical practice on our Female Personality Disorder ward.


Responsibilities

* Ensure optimal clinical outcomes for the people in our care.
* Lead on all aspects of clinical practice and serve as an example of operational excellence.
* Provide leadership for medical staff on professional and managerial issues while monitoring performance.
* Supervise all consultants and ensure they are conducting supervision of SDs and ASs.
* Provide expert knowledge and support within the service and to the wider team.
* Ensure quality and compliance with internal and external standards and regulations.
* Work with colleagues to provide integrated, whole‑person treatment and care.
* Coach, mentor and train colleagues.
* Ensure regular communication and meetings with medical staff.
* Assist in recruitment and retention of medical staff.
* Ensure medical staff are involved in hospital clinical governance.
* Work with hospital managers to lead on successful implementation of CQC outcomes for 4, 7 and 9.
* Chair medical advisory committee meetings and attend Cygnet Medical Directors meetings.
* Liaise with Responsible Officer and Regional Medical Director regarding fitness to practice issues for staff.


As a Consultant Psychiatrist

* Lead on the provision of high quality care to service users admitted to Clarion Ward.
* Maintain a positive attitude towards patients, families, visitors and staff.
* Take overall responsibility for patient treatment plans in conjunction with the multi‑disciplinary team.
* Assess referrals and undertake mental state examinations.
* Undertake appropriate investigations, diagnose and treat.
* Conduct ward rounds, patient reviews and clinical audits.
* Implement risk assessment, risk management and embed clinical governance.
* Supervise reports for Mental Health Act tribunals and manage hearings.
* Liaise with the Ministry of Justice for patient transfer and leave approvals.
* Maintain patient records.
* Communicate with the Site Medical Director and Hospital Manager.
* Provide regular contact with patients, relatives and other concerned bodies.
* Attend and contribute to academic meetings, adhering to GMC and Royal College of Psychiatrists CPD standards.
* Contribute to the telephone on‑call rota.


Qualifications

* Fully GMC registered and MBBS (or equivalent) qualified.
* Registered on the specialist register (CCT/CESR), Section 12 and AC status.
* Experienced in General Adult Psychiatry and mental health diagnosis.
* Knowledgeable of the Mental Health Act, Code of Practice, Mental Capacity Act 2005 and Code of Capacity.
* Excellent communicator with ability to interview, assess, treat and write clear notes.
* Committed to continued professional development.
* Able to work as part of a multi‑disciplinary team.
* Member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (MRCPsych) or equivalent.
