DESIGN MANAGER – CIVIL ENGINEERING

Our client is an established regional civil engineering contractor and one of the fastest-growing contractors in the UK. They work to deliver a diverse range of projects varying in value to £25m, including public realm improvements, highway reconfigurations, bridge and structural projects and flood alleviation schemes. The business offers long-term security through multiple frameworks and has a strong team of established and talented Engineers, collaborating to deliver a growing portfolio of projects across the South
They are recruiting for a Civil Engineering Design Manager, to proactively engage with their internal operational teams and their suppliers. The main function of this role is to challenge designers, whilst looking for value engineering solutions to provide them and their clients best value, at the same time to ensure buildability is considered at all stages.
The Civil Engineering Design Manager can come from a site background, having worked their way up into a management position and with an interest in design or they can be from a design consultancy, having worked at a senior level as a designer or managed small teams.
Responsibilities include;
* Collaborate with the pre-construction team to lead the design and delivery of major projects within the region
* Providing ongoing support to construction teams
* Coordinating interfaces with all engineering disciplines
* Chairing interim and end of design stage meetings
* Driving timely deliverable production
* Progress reporting
* Championing best practice within value engineering and buildability
* Assisting a smooth handover from design to delivery stage
* Leading design risk management reviews
Skills/Background:
* Site background or from a design consultancy
* Understanding of the full project lifecycle from inception stage
* Commercially astute
* Having worked closely with a civil engineering design team or as a designer
* Temporary Works experience
* Experience of undertaking feasibility studies, options appraisal and concept design, and/or outline and detailed design for clients and design and build contractors is desirable
Education:
* BEng in Civil Engineering
* MICE or working towards
* Full UK Driving licence
